Hi all! Happy New Year to everyone!

I have two new annoying noises coming from my 1994 75 series landcruiser ute!

1. Somewhere underneath the floor in the vicinity of the accelerator pedal. When i drive off i hear a twirlling/whining noise which disappears when i reach about 65kms/hr.

2. When coming out of a carpark, i hear a crunching/cluncking/grinding noise when returning from 3/4 lock to centre at crawling speeds. Its in 2wd and diffs are unlocked, i can feel it has something to do with steering.

I am about to book it in for its 160,000kms service, but just wondered if anyone knew of these problems.

Cheers,
Brian B

Brian B,
And a Happy New Year to you too.
About No.1 i have no idea.
No.2 could be the spring shackle rubbers worn or cv's need attention.
Only 160,000 k's on a 94 model ? Well done.
Cheers,
Bros.

I bought it in october 2004, it had 134,000kms on it then. It also came with a new paint job. (clubsport metallic blue)

Does number 1 noise go away when your changing gears ,or is it constant till you hit 65?
Is it still there if you turn the engine off and coast downhill?

Number 2 could be as Bros1 says or it could be the spring pack shifting.
You can try torquing them up to a 180lbs and see if it makes a differnce.
Otherwise tierod ends are a likely cause.

Put the front wheels alongside a kerb so its impossible for them to turn, get someone to rock the steering.
You may see some parts move and other stay still at the joints indicating slop.

No 2 noise - spray/hose the spring packs out with Lanotec, and then it will be - 'Oh! what a feeling'

Trust me - it works a treat an lasts the longest.
