I never heard of Jervis Bay Territory, it is a recognised State in Australia? It has a 32km border with NSW.

Rick, I guess technically it's not a corner however as you are probably aware, the boundary junction is miss-alighned due to an error with the surveyors chain.
There is another kink in the border between the river and the Sturt Highway where the border side steps about 100 yards in an east / west direction. You can win money on a bet that you can stand in SA and look westwards into Victoria.

Yes Al, good story that of the survey error. I was not aware that physically as well as in all other matters that the Vics were behind us. I appreciate the observation!!!!!!!!! where is the kink? (stand back & watch the kinky Vics buy in to this!)
have you got a pic of that cairn /monument on the north side of the river that you can post?

Cheers

gunna be hot over the next few day, What's Daangali look like now after the fires?

Rick, The Kinky bit is about 3/4 of the way from the Sturt Highway to the river. If you turn north at the border along the border track, you will easily see the kink.
Sorry I don't have a pic of the cairn. There is an old ruin of a building that was used as a scab inspectors hut and near-by is the cairn. It is at Lake Litra and I think it is called Litra Hut. It has been partuially restored with the walls being rebuilt some years ago by a few local land owners.

Sure is going to be hot for the next few days.
Danggali didn't suffer much damage from the fires. The total area that the fire was in was extensive however not everything was burnt. It was very patchy. Gluepot and Taylorville Stations carried the brunt of the fire and probably parts of Pooginook were burnt too.

Bonz, you need to read the book called the Disputed Border sold through Westprint Books. It is written by your fellow Vics and even they say that SA was ripped off. The Vics were trying to get their fingers on more of SA rthan they were entitled to because in fact SA is the glorious state and the only part of Vic that is glorious are the parts that you usurped from us. LOL

Des, I knew you would know where the scab inspectors huts would be. You still in that doctoring trade? Hey, on disputed territory, I know some croweaters who reckon they should be appended to Victoria. Don't know we need a SW appendage as much as you like the SE one. More pine forests there than you can point a pine needle at.....

Des, I googled that book and got the following:

"this tome was funded by the South Australian Government and they insisted upon editorial rights. As such they wrote into the funding arrangements, certain criteria that shall be complied with. Amongst these are the right to ensure that South Australia and its population must not be maligned in any way, shape or form, furthermore that the "dispute" must always be portrayed in such a light that makes out that South Australia and its population are being hard done by and that they were gracious in handing over part of their hard fought land to any border disputed during the period under investigation"

Hence I find that any reference ti Crow Eaters being hard done by to be ubiquitious in the essence of that it is a falsified trueism.

Googling Corvus Wikapedia was Constellation or weapon.
Corone I presumed related to a Corona (not the beer) and masticator eating, however googling Corvus Corae did allude to the crow.

Des Lexic

Are you suggesting the border kink at the Murray River was caused is “due to an error with the surveyors chain?” I think the chain error is the second one you referred to. It shows up well on Google Earth at 34° 5'43.17"S, 140°57'42.99"E.

The error in the Vic section of the border was due to the accuracy of determining time when it was surveyed. When the NSW section was surveyed the surveyors had the luxury of being able to use the telegraph line from Sydney to Adelaide to correct their clock.

The South Australians foolishly accepted the position of the border in legislation before its position was rechecked. In other words they gave their territory away, SA was not “ripped off” as you suggest.

ps this comes from a New South Welshman not a gloating Victorian.

Well Rick,

I am not sure if the actual corner has a name or not but the Pastoral Station (a formere Kidman property) nearest to the point you are talking about is called Ned's Corner. Like I said I am not sure if that is the name of the corner but I 'll bet someone knows.

Yes, Duncs, have been to the area - quite surprising scenery & vegetation for Victoria, eh? Nowadays, Neds corner is in the National Park.

Still love to hear in the corner of Vic / NSW/ SA has a formal name.
C'mon, you internet & surveying sleuths!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ric, the Topo map of the Riverland does not give any formal name to the area. Wilperna Island is on the NSW side of the border and another area is called Bounday Bend. Sorry, thats the best I can come up with.
