I am having LPG fitted to my NM Pajero. They want to fit it in the space where the third row of seats is stored, I have had a look at one they are working on at the moment and they do a good job, they replace the floor of the
well with one just a bit lower so there is minimum effect on clearance/departure. However, this means that the
seat will have to either stay fitted in the load space, or live in the shed when not in use. This folding
seat was one of the attractions of the car as we carry kids around a lot. (AND use it off road, it's not a school bus!) but we also carry the dog around even more so need the load space clear.
So...yes, eventually there is a question, hang in there ..... the fitters tell me that fitting a belly
tank and putting the gas in place of the petrol
tank is not an option. Are they right? Does anyone know of any other option for the LPG
tank on an NM Pajero?
Thanks
Nick
(yes, I did check the archives but didn't spot anything)

I've looked around too and the only place anyone will fit a gas
tank is in the wheel
well. There's not enough clearance where the fuel
tank fits, it would hang too low.
I'm thinking I'll fit a long range fuel
tank instead as the main reason for me is range. Just make sure to fill it up when the petrol's at it's cheapest.

Thanks John,
I have read in various
places over the past few years about the 'new' tanks which are supposed to be about the size of scuba tanks, you need two or more of them but they can fit in smaller gaps. However although they appear in print the don't seem to exist in reality!

Gday greydemon
I just had the diesel gas system fitted under the patrol and the 28 litre
tank is fairly small. I have seen (can't remember where) a combined petrol/gas
tank where the gas cylinder is inside the petrol
tank - the gas
tank generally is round for streangth and having it inside the square(ish)petrol
tank all available space is used. There is also a mob making lpg tanks that are not a cylinder. They have internal framing and are 'flatter', and more expensive. Google should show you, but your installer's supplier probably doesn't have them, so he is just telling you what he can supply.
Cheers Andrew

Hi Nick
I have had fitted a32litre
tank usable 24L for my NP Did it was the only space available. As i am running on Diesel I get a good range but would like a bigger
tank.Have you checked what size
tank they will install, I am presuming yours is petrol.

Funnily enough I forgot to ask! I used to have a 70 litre
tank on a 1990 Pajero and the one I saw them fitting into an NM would have been about that size, or just a bit smaller - 60 litres perhaps.

When I was car shopping last year for the Paj, I saw a second hand NM in
Melbourne at a Mitsubishi dealer that had an LPG
tank under the body that had replaced the fuel
tank - it was LPG only. Dealer insisted it was "dual fuel", but couldn't show me the petrol
tank or the petrol filler :-)
So there are (or were) LPG tanks that replace the fuel
tank. Wouldn't have a clue where to source it though, I've just laid eyes on one before.

Thanks Scubaroo,
Now I know that a gas
tank can replace the petrol
tank all I now need to work out it where to put a replacement petrol
tank! I need to have a better look underneath, my quick glance showed the petrol
tank on the passenger side but the driver side looked pretty full already so probably no room there. I suspect that I'm going to have to reluctantly go with the
seat well option.
