Evening Black Bull

There are 5 steps to this exercise.

(1) Locate your HZJ105 owners manual.

(2) READ IT - in particular the section re service where it will identify the OEM recommended API and Viscosity specs for the oil to be used in your vehicle.

(3) Do a google/web search and establish what oil/s with the aforementioned specs are available to you in your area.

(4) Use your own mental accumen to then decide what oil brand you will use and from where you will purchase it.

(5) Then do it

Oil Filters - there is only one option for Toyotas and that is genuine ( If you want to avoid possible issues that is).

Reason being the OEM filter has a different valving system designed to hold oil for the next start.

I have the same truck minus the turbo 8-( I spent a great deal of time looking into this recently. It would appear that many recommend using any good quality 15w40 engine oil and there are numerous reports of engines doing 500k km with no issues.

For me, I decided to go with the "Japanese Diesel Engine Oils" as many others in the know recommended these oils as from what I can gather, there are only 2 specific oils that fit the criteria... Caltex CXJ and Castrol J-Max.

The other place to ask these questions is on the LCOOL yahoo group.

Only time and km will tell whether this is the right decision.

Hope this is of some help.

Nothing wrong With Valvoline super diesel oil & it is fine in your vehicle.
Have used it for years in my own trucks & 4x4 as well as in my workshop for customers.

My 2 bobs worth. Aftermarket turbo 1hz, run Castrol RX Super, (Buy in bulk as used in heavy machinery), with Bitron engine additive. Change oil and filter (dont have to use genuine filters either) every 10,000km not 5,000 and i have absolutely no dramas. Oil stays quite clear for a long time! I do a lot of km's regularly at high temps usually pulling heavy trailers so turbo gets a good work out and performs fantasic. Regards Kirsten (NSW)
