I wonder when the Poms are goning to send out their main team to play the Ashes.

I thought they would have had a bit more of a fight in them than what they have shown here!!

Notwithstanding that it's good to see we flogged them 5 nil!!!

Thanks, Glen, Shane and Justin.

I think that we should have played their under 19 team.
They would have had a better chance.

I think its humous that people paid to go watch it, or even turned the tele on.. it was going to be a farce from game 2 onwards.

People are saying "TEST CRICKET AS A GAME IS AT ITS HEALTHIEST EVER", must be taking better drugs than me. If thats "healthy", I'd hate to see what they think is dead.

pathetic is one word that comes to mind, but thats world cricket as it is today.. woefully sad.

Bring on 20/20

May as well have them out on the field playing "french cricket". Takes about as much skill.

Soon we'll have 5/5. Can play a whole series in half a day :))))))))))))

Hi there

great result, unlike Truckie, I tuned into to every test either on the telly or via ABC radio and missed very few overs...love the game, alive and healthy here and great to see.

Now I'm just sitting here waiting to hear from all my friends in the UK, those people who were so quick to send me an email or two when we lost the Ashes...they've been very very quiet....

and...

I have to say, I think the English supports - The Barmy Army - love them or hate them, were a fantastic feature of the series, they stuck by their team throughout, and good on them, I found them most entertaining.

Well done Aussies, looking forward now to the one dayers.

cheers

Lyn

Yep the Aussie team is just too good, gotta love being a winner eh! winners are grinners.

It was suggested on another forum that the Poms should have their visas revoked and be kicked out for lying and claiming they were professional cricket players. hahaha

Get with it Bruce, enjoy the win, laugh and enjoy the jokes

The sport is "HEALTHY" in australia, but it isnt anywhere else in the world..

Compare it to the "WORLD SERIES" Baseball where only USA teams play.. thats where Cricket is heading.

Ray,
I enjoy a win as much as the next, i played Cricket myself, even into Representitive teams for 20 odd years, but I enjoy a competition even more.

Wheres the excitement in knowing the game is over 1/2 way through day 1? And to know it wont make 4 days let alone 5....??

disagree with you Truckie, it's being played in many countries, it may take some time for some them to get to the same standard, but the fact that's it's being played and promoted is very Healthy. I've not played representtive cricket but have some friends who played at district and at State level for Victoria, they are still involved in coaching and encouraging youngsters in the game and hoping to see a bigger Victorian representation at National level.

that's just my thoughts...

and now I look forward to the one dayers, for what the are, a bit of fun...

cheers

Most of these teams have nearly 100yrs of history in cricket... if its going to take longer, lets stop now.

Again, your pointing at AUSTRALIAN cricket being healthy, with coaching in aussie...

It goes in cycles. I'm hard pressed to think of a single sport where one team/nation has'nt dominated for a period of time. Sooner or later we'll be on the receiving end. Enjoy it while we can :))))

Ok Truckie, I'll argue with you one last time,... only because I can't stand people so bloody minded about something.

so.. yes I saw that score, I saw the match infact, ..because as I am a cricket fan, I watch cricket played between ALL nations and not just my own. Now you can argue that cricket is unhealthy, but, I can look at it from this angle, Sri Lanka played incredibly well, not only did their bowlers bowl NZ out for a woeful score, but their batsman Jayasuriya hit the kiwi bowlers all over the park in his great innings of 70 off 44 balls, which was fantastic to watch, and I might add that the Kiwi bowlers weren't that bad, looks like a very good bowler, and Detori didn't play due to illness. It will be interesting to see who wins the deciding game today, Sri Lanka had to win to stay to have a chance of winning the series, I would argue that despite NZ's lacklustre score, for the other team to win to give them a chance of winning the series makes it pretty healthy.

Sth Africa have just cleaned up India, in their Test Series, 3 - 0, of the 4 of the 5 ODI's played, Sth Africa have won all of them, it will be interesting to see how they perform at the World Cup in March.

Healthy to me, simply means that the game is being played, that people are watching, that kids want to play it. My own kids are now asking me about the rules of the game so they can understand it, not bad I reckon for a 7yr old girl and 5 yr old boy who previous to this year had no idea about the game, and can even name some of the players. All sport has highs and lows, as I said earlier I can remember when the Australian cricket team was not highly rated, and the English were stronger, As Gramps said things go in waves,.

I would rather watch the game of cricket, enjoy it for what it is, a great game of strategy than whinge and whine and carry on about a sport being unhealthy and not wanting to watch it coz you think you know the result. Eventhough a team may lose the match, or series, there can be individuals who shine and you can take your hat off to them. The English team came here thinking they were better than they were, and seemed ill prepared for the tour, or perhaps they were not aware of how bad the Australian team wanted to prove themselves. Whatever the reason, they met an opposition that were more determined and more hungry for victory than themselves. When listening to the ABC during the last test match, Kerry O"keefe said "I wonder if England are thinking they can still win this" [after Australia went past their 1st inning score]. because In Adelaide, Ricky and the boys never considered losing that test", Sport is healthy when people want to watch it, when kids want to play it, when teams like Sri Lanka produce batsman and bowlers who can knock out other teams, [and I'm well aware of the controversy surrounding one of the bowlers in the Sri Lankan team!]. As I said, I'm looking forward to seeing how things unfold during the world cup, sure, there's a likelyhood of some teams winning by large margins, there are 16 nations playing, I'm not sure how the Scots will go, or the Dutch, but, just by being there helps raise the profile of the sport a little further in their nation, and if they get a win, fantastic, and I"m not that arrogant to think that it's a cut and dried world cup victory for Australia either. If everyone gave up just because they thought they didn't have a chance at something what a sorry lot we'd be.

Now I realise that my opinion is probably worth nothing, and being female I probably know nothing, but that's my stand. You want to disagree, that's cool, but I'm sure that this isn't the place for it.

apologies to Ray, Gramps and Tia Marie who've been caught up in this.

cheers

Lyn

>> Healthy to me, simply means that the game is being played, that people are watching, that kids want to play it. My own kids are now asking me

That is where we differ.. Healthy to me means an even competition no matter who the teams are where anyone can win. Doesnt really mean anyting about kids or crowds as such.

'my own kids' - again your talkin about HERE - AUSTRALIA.. Im talking WORLD WIDE.

If you get a moisty watching a game that can only have one result, all the power to you.. to me, I'd rather watch re-runs of the Dick Van Dyke show.

I'd rather be able to admit that the game is bleep ed in most parts of the world rather than sit there with blinkers on pretending its "ALL WONDERFUL CAUSE AUSSIE IS WINNING AND MY KIDS....".. Do you realise that the game is played in other parts of the world andm is declining in some of the parts where the strongest teams in history have come from?

The game overseas (EG: west indies!!!!) is dropping in large #'s of kids playing because - they had no real answers to this question. There was a show on Optus about it a few weeks ago.

This is one reason they are struggling in some countries now only comin up with fiftyteenth rated teams that are not worth the effort, and why they use teams like Holland, Scotland Canada and USA to make up #'s to have a world cup.. In reality it should have 6 teams not some of these teams where Aust will score 23849230948 runs an over, then have them out for 10 in 30 mins.. WOW THATS GREAT!!! pointless, but WOW factor for some will be amazing.

and I knew you would have another go :P

Geez T-Man u have forgotten the other side of the plate, teams like playing the best, I have a friend who played for SriLanka and they loved playing the Windies when they were up as well as the Aussies right now, it was like climbing Everest something we dream about and if we get to the top then we are on top of the world, literally.

I dont believe that u can know the outcome of a test match by lunch on Day 1, geez thats gotta be a bs statement if I ever heard one, test matches ebb and flow and the outcome is never a certainty till the fat lady sings or the #11 batsman is out.

You must be a real fan T-Man to defend with such enthusiasm.

What the UK captain says has nothing to do with the state of Australian test cricket and everything to do with the state of UK cricket and prolly the performance in the Ashes series, wait till the one dayers we always lose one of them then you'll be happy mate....and right too the result is usually known by the end of the first day hehahahah

They really should drop KP till he learns how to play cricket.
