Thanks for all the replies I recived regarding this problem, It seems all the 2.8 gu owners where spot on, and a few others as well. The radiator was around 80-85% blocked and beyond repair, It was around the $1000 mark for a new one which is out of range this close to christmas for a dad with kids!!! So under this repairers advice I have a reco one from a GQ 2.8 in it now, I took it up my test hill where I was nursing it before to keep it from getting critical, I now flew up in 5th with the aircon on and no probs. I am sure in the long run a new one would have better, but you do what you have to do sometimes and this one was $280 so if I have to do it again in a couple of years I will understand. Plus it has a year warrenty so here's hopen!!!

Cheers THE NEW COOL Stefan!! lol

Sounds good Stefan, I paid about $700 to recore mine a couple of years ago. I had an option of a $500 recore, a $700.00 recore, and a $1200.00 recore. The 1200 would be the best choice, had a lot more cooling capacity, but I was in the same boat and got what I could afford at the time.

Cheers
Andrew

sounds ... um .....cool!
You will be able to get nearly 4, $280 radiators that works for the price of one $1000 rad that also works
IF you get 3 years out of $280, will you get 12 years(3 x 4) out of the dearer one?

Well I would hope you would, but this one was only 7 years old (125000 km) so I find that pretty woefull, I have owned the car for only 4 months. The service history says the oil was changed when due but it seems the green stuff was neglected a bit, I only hope (pray!!!) there is not some serious internal damage RE head ect!!!!

Time will tell

I'd be installing a low water alarm just in case. IF the new one ever goes, at least you'll know about it.

Wow...$1000 for a new one?

As I said in my reply to your previous post, I paid $495 for a NEW radiator in September 06 and that included $30 freight!! But this is for a 4.2 diesel engine.

I think that the 2.8 might have a different radiator.

Anyway, its good to hear that the truck is running well now.

Cheers

according to a couple of repairers I spoke to, no aftermarkets are up to the task so genuine is the way to go at around $1000!!
