I have been playing around with Garmin files and downloaded some Points from the web , it's amzing just how much info is becoming available and as time goes by the data bases will keep growing,

web site www.gps-data-team.com/poi/

I have just bought a Nuvi 660 and it only has room for 500 waypoints, on the GPSmap 176C I had 3000 waypoint capacity and 700+ were Truck Parking bays and would have liked to have had them in the Nuvi but not to be until I found out I could convert those Garmin Database file waypoints into a .gpx and uploaded the lot into the Nuvi along with 16000 other points

Great site, still undecided on which one to get. Looking seriously at tomtom one second edition. Price variation is daunting.

That's brilliant. I had the same problem with the Street Pilot C510 that supplied with the Jeep we brought last week. If anyone is interested I have the following two "point of interest" files: (1) Approx 200 Parking bays in the South West of WA (2) Emergency telephones along the Eyre Highway.

Amazing eh what we can do today,Imagine the look on Capt' Cook's face if he could have been shown GPS Navigation
You can send me those park bays if you like and I will check them out but I like the ones where you can get an Oversize load into but that don't matter I can keep them separated, I don't know yet how these files are going to work , .gpx are suppose to be like the Red Light Camera warning and give a warnibg sound when within 400m , I have another set of files for other POIs and they are [Microsoft Excel Comma Separated Values Files] , Now I have converted my waypoints of the parking bays into .gpx file and am wondering if iy will give a signal when I get to 400m , Now I have also done same with the narrow Bridges and if that gives a warning at 400m then that will be good if one is on the ball when working , guess If i make a false point near home and try it and see what happens .
I will put the files of mine on my GPS webpage for all to download as well and use them on Garmin Mapsource .
Seems a lot of effort is going into getting the Eastern States done but WA is dragging behind, just have a look at the NAB and Harvey Norman points in that URL i posted.

Hi Doug

You're absolutely right about how amazing this stuff is. I am now goingh through my data files to see what I can group into POS files. I will send the other two files I have to you via direct email.

If you need help convertin any of your files to GPX format I can help.

Cheers
Jeff
