I would have thought that it would be more likely the other way round.

A 15 amp rated flex cable with 10 amp plugs & sockets fitted is OK. Means less voltage drop.
A 10 amp lead with 15 amp plugs & / or sockets is not ok.

I'm with Tony, though I might add a mixture of 10A and 15A plugs and/or sockets is not OK.
Caveat Emptor--
There may be some honest salepeople around, but they are few and far between.
If it is found to be illegal, it may be a good chance for some cheap bribery money. Otherwise, you could always report them to the State Electrical Licensing Authority. Gee, that could go all the way to customs!!!

Description seems OK, though I cannot locate the standard on the Australian Standards Website.

As mentioned above, as long as the plugs on each end are the same, and they don't exeed the rating of the lead, all is ok. Putting a 10 amp male on one end and a 15 amp one on the other so you can plug a 15 amp applience (caravan) into a 10 amp power point is the type of thing the authorities don't like. aA 10 amp plug on both ends will require a lead of at least 10 amps in between, 15 amps is OK in this case.
Cheers Andrew

Yeah I know of AS3000 (with the purple cover), just haven't heard of Q060739, which Slush mentioned :)

"Q060739"
Doesn't sound like an Australian Standard to me. Maybe some past Queensland power authority approval ??
According to the other
forum it is illegal to have a 10 A plug and 15 A socket unles some approved form of current limiting device is fitted.
I reckon there would be hundreds in use as not many people have 15A outlets at
home and using it to keep a battery charged and the occasional light to find something left in the van, would be no problem. Provided you didn't use such a lead to run an airconditioner, and other high current appliances.
Probably another bit of 'protective legislation' based on the assumption that everyone is a fool.

The subject of illegal 10 to 15A leads has recently been thrashed out on Caravaners
Forum ( Site Link and I posted the following reply (among many others). I hope you all jump onto your email and send one as
well.
"If you NON BELIEVERS really want to do something to sort this problem out, how about you all contact Arlec and raise it with them as I am certain if they have enough people enquiring about it, they will look into marketing a product that will help you.
To change the rules is not an option, so do as I have done and put pressure onto the people that can produce the product that we all need.
I sent my email to techenquiries@arlec.com.au and had an answer within half an hour. It has now been passed onto their R&D section. The more these people hear about our need the more likely they will listen and react on or requests."
