Help we have just picked up a trek bwana camper trailer and taken it out for the first time. It has leaked all around the bed, down the internal walls and one of the internal doors is 6 inches too short and so the room cannot be sealed. Thus we had 3 black widow spiders come visit us at night. The internal access under the bed is not square so the lid sits up on one side making it uneven and very uncomfortable to sleep on. Rain also poured in at the kitchen end right into the trailer. The list does not stop there as there are even more problems. We have phoned them and emailed them but they have not got back to us. As a result I have posted a complaint to DFT in Sydney. Does anyone know if DFT can help with interstate purchases???

Take it up with the DFT of the state from which you brought it from.

wittyone,

Continue with the DFT action though I would recommend keeping full records of any contact made with Trek Trailers. Make a complaint to Trek Trailers in writing explaining your grievances and keep a photocopy for evidence if required. make sure you give Trek Trailers every opportunity to reply. Whenever you call them and leave a message keep a record of date, time and what message was left. If you do get to talk to them on the phone, directly after the phone call write down a record of conversation on what both parties had discussed. This can and will help at a later date if it all goes pear shaped and Legal help is needed. Plus this can help DFT help you......Good luck

PS: Photographic evidence is even better with date time recorded on the picture.

Teabag,
Thanks we do have photographic evidence of the faults and documented everything we have found wrong with the trailer as was suggested by a local camping store owner and we have kept records of contact made. We picked it up on the 16th November 2006 and first made contact after we opened it to check it on the 11th December 2006. Unfortunately they are not responding. After so much research (2 years) we thought we had made the right decision with this.

wittyone,

Good luck with your fight though highly recommend sending your grievances in writing. It will work in your favour at a latter time if further action is required.

Good Luck and keeps use informed on how you go........

I assume you thoroughly wet the canvas a couple of times to expand the seams
before taking it out. Some c-t suppliers tell you to, some don't.
First time we went camping it poured down for hours but our c-t was 100% dry.
Might have gone a bit overboard by drenching it several times over a week
beforehand but it sure worked.

Yes my husband is ex army and is aware of how to care for canvas. He wet it down but it came in through the zippered seams and the velcro seams and then down the walls not through the sewn seams and was expected. The seam over the bed stayed dry and that was the one we thought would leak.
