Hi Alloy,
Do you mean the take-away and bait/tackle shops at
Bulwer are no more? That's a shame - we used to look forward to our 'burger with the lot' on our last day, before catching the Combie II home.
The fuel prices don't sound too bad, considering what has to be done to get it over there. And why would anyone not take their own firewood for a week or so?
Hope the poor ol'
grey nurse was released unharmed?...
Ian

Hi Ian,
I think all that is now open in
Bulwer is the store and the garage. You can buy bait at the garage but it is all generally frozen so the live stuff you used to get at the bait and tackle store may be a thing of the past.
I am also led to believe that you can only get fuel at
Bulwer now as the guy at Kooringal no longer has his licence to sell petrol.
Apart from
Bulwer and Kooringal you can still get basic supplies etc still at the resort
shop which is more up towards the helipad end of the resort and you can buy ice from the Micat barge which lands next to the
Tangalooma wrecks.
The place is going through some changes at present by the sound of it.

Yep ,the takeaway at
Bulwer is no more, same for the bait and tackle
shop , can still get fuel at Kooringal if in dire need [ straight from the jerry can at $2 per lt with a 20lt min buy ] ,also bait [ frozen] and a small area set aside at the "bar" selling tackle ,, and yes you can buy some of the essentials at the Resort
shop but be prepared ,the prices charged are even 50% more than
Bulwer,,
the tuna was released ,took an hr to land and then 40 min to swim it before taking off ,, the shovel nose had the hook removed and then released and the
grey nurse was also released although with the hook embeded in the jaw.

As I recall, the bait & tackle
shop at
Bulwer was also the mob who hired out Suzukis and Troopies? Does that mean there're no hire vehicles anymore?
We hired a Troopy once when relos came over for a day trip. Couldn't fit 6 into our two-seater Series III Landy (
well not legally, a least). The Troopy was OK, but much rougher riding over the exposed tree roots than our parabolic-sprung Landy...

G'day Alloy,
Have they made any changes as yet to getting a
campsite? Last time we were over there the
ranger told us they would be going to the online system as is used for a number of QLD parks nowadays?
Just curious.

Bulwer to Cowan are now designated campsites ,fenced and bollarded , Northpoint
campsite =18 designated sites , was told by the
ranger that slowly but surely the rest of the campsites both on east & west will be fenced/bollarded to try and "limit" the numbers camped on the island at anyone time ,, according to the police on the island the Coomboya
camping area is the worst for violence due to the number of juvenile "walk ons" .

Thanks for that report, Alloy c/t
The place sounds like a Hell Hole and one to steer clear of (unless of course you are a dedicated fisherman...lol).
Maybe Moreton will be good for a daytrip with a full
tank of fuel and and your own tucker
Cheers

At $180 return on the barge, that'll be an expensive daytrip.
Yep, the place is a hell hole. It's best thatnobody goes there.

camp place was excellant. What's happened to the pizzas at tangalooma? They used to be realy nice.
