fuse box under the bonnet or in the cab?, + side of the trucks coil?
or from an accessory that operates with the ignition like the cig outlet??

Gday dogboy

I took mine off the windscreen wiper motor, as it was close by ans has a wire that is live while the ignition is on. I think it is the power supply that returns the wiper to the bottom of the windscreen when you turn off the wipers.

It works well for me so far..

Cheers Andrew

PS I think others have taken it from the reverse light switch on the gearbox, but that was a bit hard for me

The other reason to use the live wiper lead is that its already fused. It usually the middle wire in a line of 3 on the connector going into the Wiper motor on the Toyotas.

I take mine from the alternator charge wire. That way the solenoid only works when the alternator is charging.

Hi Dogboy

As already suggested use the wiper return wire.

Make sure to fit a switch on the dash to isolate it when needed.

Regards

Derek.

dogboy,
I would make sure the solenoid drops out when you are actually cranking, otherwise you are starting of both batteries, so you will never know if your starter battery is crook until the day you go camping and flatten your aux battery, then she no go!!

Hi again Dogboy

I know you already have a solenoid but if you use a fully automatic one like the Redarc or ABR ones you won't need a ignition source.

It also won't engage until the main battery reaches 13.4 volts.

Derek.
