Hello all,

Well after reading posts from months ago and searching the web constantly re-LPG fumigation, I put my name on the waiting list back in September 06. I have just picked up my 2003 3.0ltr Manual Patrol from the guys at Lovato AutoGas ( Diesel Gas Australia) in Perth. I know you are all keen to hear the results.......well on my drive home this is what my first impressions are.

Turbo lag? what turbo lag? Anyone that ones one of these cars knows that if you want to pull out in traffic and get moving that when you put your foot down nothing happens till about 2000revs and when you are changing gears that you need to rev up to 3000revs to keep the turbo boosted at 2000revs by the completion of gear change or you get bogged down ( Note I also run 305/75 tyres as well which doesnt help )Well not anymore!!! I drove home with the aircon on and from a start you cant even feel the turbo kicck in..it just boots from 1000-1200 revs which in my books is just off idle.
When I wnated to keep moving briskly along in the fast lane I no longer had to rev to 3000 for the gear changes, only to 2400 and she would drop down to 1400 revs and off she went!!
I have driven the new Pathfinder with its great Turbo Diesel engine..what does it have 140kw and 430nm of torque??Well the Patrol now moves along just as briskly!! With out any doubt!!

So when they fitted the system I had to pay $250 for the exhaust to be reruited for the Gas tank so I spoke to the exhaust guys and just had to pay an extra $200 to have a 2.5'' pipe put through from the turbo drop down and they fitted to straight through hot dogs which now looks really sweet and will give me that little soemthing extra and at idle there is now a nice little burble going on but no noticable noise on the road.

The tank fits snuggly up against the passanger side chassis rail and is no lower than the original muffler was. The fit out was A1 and all appears to be good quality.

Now I just have to submitt my paper work for my $1000 state and $200 federal gov rebates and Im just $1500 out of pocket which I have already got covered through 5 extra overtime shifts I did in the last 3 months while waiting to get the system fitted.

So in 3 weeks I have a 800klm round trip to Geraldton and back to do so will drive the car for fuel economy and make a new post with my findings. If anyone wants me to post some pictuers of the system under bonnet, under car, in car gauges and exhaust mod just let me know.

Cheers

DJ,

You sound very happy with it. I wish I was!

I'm sick 'n tired of phoning DieselGas in Perth only to be told "he's busy and he'll ring you back". He never does and they never will I suppose.

I'd love to get mine done but after 9 unanswered phone calls, I've given up.

Hey Bilbo,

Sorry to hear that, I was in the same boat initially with emails and answering machines but these guys are running absolutely flat out. So I managed to get the mobile phone number and then all was sweet. Whenever I Mark Collins from Lovato Autogas on this number I speak with him straight away so here is his number 0419049108 you should have no issues now, just get ya car booked in and wait till they give ya a call. Although I called them after each month had passed so I think they squeezed me in a little earlier.
Hope this helps bud, dont give up the gas system is well worth the wait!!

Cheers

DJ,

Thanks for that,,,,,,,,,,but,,,,,,,,

Yep - tried Mark Collins' number as well - 3 times - can't get an answer. He never rings back.

Perhaps the thought of converting a V8 Chev is scaring him ;)

Hi Dieseljuice

Congratulations on getting Dieselgas installed.

Your comments are similar to my experience with my ZD30 automatic. Your vehicles performance may be even better after the 1,500 kms service and adjustment.

My only problem is that I now have an intermittent and annoying exhaust vibration on idle and when travelling slowly in traffic. Done all the usual checking and tightening of bolts etc with little sucess. Not really a big deal so I may just have to put up with it.

I will be interested to hear economy and associated cost savings statistics when you done a few kms.

Cheers
Phil

Hey one other thing that I forgot to mention was that as DieselGas Australia state in their web site, the engine does actually sound quieter. With the diesel Gu if you put your foot down the noise goes up in the cabin but I have just noticed on the freeway this morning that where I would usually sit on 95-100 to keep the engine noise down ( plus it is the speed limit ) but now if I sit on110kms p/h the noise is the same as before the gas sitting on 95-100...very interesting yet pleasing!.

Dieseljuice,
I've read up on this and yes it's sparks the interest. I fitted a Dtronic chip this has had a similar effect regarding the performance improvements you talk about, fuel consumption I must admit hasn't got much better. We have trucks that visit work here that have had a "similar" system fitted not the system you talk about, a few of these trucks in the early days fried a couple of motors due to the extra heat you get when you introduce gas into the fuel system to get a better burn in turn better performance. Not sure how you would go with warranty stuff unless the people who install the system warranty your engine as well as their system.
For me the jury is out at the moment, I would go for the chip at present, considering the consequences of running on gas, the gas tank the tubing etc etc and the extra heat I'm not sure. This is my opinion and obviously varies from others who have responded to your thread. I hope everything works for you after the wait and the cost, the brochure makes for interesting reading. Did you change your engine lubricant or did you stick with the original spec? The brochure doesn't make mention of this side of things.
Keep the shiny side up

Hey Marty,

I spoke to nissan as I still have 2 yrs extended warranty an dthey stated that the vehicle is sill covered under the warranty no probs unless they find irreputable evidence that it was in fact the gas that caused the fault. But then for $160 I have taken out the 3 yr warranty that DieselGas offer that will warrant against any fault the gas may cause to the engine to $5000. So feel I am covered both ways. I/m not too worried cause as the web showsvehicles have been usin gthis duel fuels type system for years now with gas input up to 70%, mind you then they tune back the diesel. less glazing and cleaner injectors, less carbon and soot leaving oil cleaner. I am still just going to keep up the same oil Castrol Magnatec....I feel this works really well for $25 per 5 litres.

Tha Juice

All the best

I am very keen on possibly pursuing this option myself... Especially now that I know it can be done well in Perth...

I would like to make the comment that I have no doubts that you have more power, but don't under estimate what the new exhaust is doing to reduce turbo lag. I know when I dumped my 3.0LTD surf straight out 2.5" from the turbo (no muffler) my little amount of turbo lag is now completly gone. It doesn't change down gears on hills that it used to (auto) it just rumbles along at 1800rpms (and I really do mean rumble with no muffler! HAHA).

So yeah, sounds good, if we make this move to Busselton it will be a very big possibility as I'll be doing 100kms a day and the savings would be great.

Good to hear it's working well! Keep us up to date on it.

Hey Jeff,

Point taken regarding the exhaust mod reducing the turbo lag but there's no denying the feel of the exta torque that is coming out now throughout the rev range. It feels like it could pull a road train up greenmount hill!!
