I am currently considering the purchase of a new fridge and I am confused as Engel Li have been established and from general conversations have a good reputation, however I am a keen "buy Australian" and am considering the Evakool 47. would appreciate comments.

Both good fridges , but the main compressor component of Evakool doesn't come from Australia anyway!

We have had an Evacool 40 odd for some 12 months, picked it up 2nd hand for nicks as 240 V element was buggered. I replaced for 90 odd bucks and has been a great unit.
My parents have had an Engel for quite some time and they have been more than happy with it.
I amnot certain what the features of the Engel that you are looking at are but for us at least we like the 3 way feature of the Evacool since we don't often use powered sites & I do not have a dual battery setup nor other fancy systems...as yet at least.

HUH.
Evakool aren't three way (unless you count 12/24 as two ways).
Either way, they are great fridges (as are Engel)
cheers

"Thats the problem with land overs - always something not quite right."
I run 2 landcruisers and 2 landrovers in my business all traybacks and all bought at the same time in 1988. all cars have done nearly 300,000km. the cruisers have cost me 4 times more in repairs not to mention both needed new transmissions. I could go on and on.... but IMHO the rovers will be here long after the cruisers have gone. them things just keep on keeping on.. Im just glad that I got it right and didnt buy 4 criusers..

Toytruck,
Didnt mean to hurt anyone's feelings... Just calling it as it happens. And to be totally honest I'd rather drive the cruisers... But "oooch...ouch" where that hurt me, is from my wallet

Have a look at the trailblaza. It is Australian made. It is very
well constructed - made from marine grade aluminium.
I have had one for years and am extremely happy with it.

Yep got a 60 litre myself, had for years and has had a rough life in the back of the cruiser- never missed abeat. An old bushy mate of
mine once said, "Never buy a fridge that you need to buy a travel bag to wrap them in cause they are poorly insulated". I heeded his advice and never regreted it.

Just my opinion. Regards Steve M

look at the explorer
fridge aussy made in
maryborough all marine grade alluminium with a danfoss compressor, they also have a seperate freezer compartment to the
fridge both have their own thermostats, no more unloading all the frige to get at the frozen gear on the bottom thus saving power by not loosing all the
cold air, have had mine fore more than 8 yrs running constantly on 240 and 12 volt expensive to buy but value for money Col

Ditto, mines 4 years old and doesn't stop. Some have said the soldering is primary school level buy hey, until it stops who cares. And yeah, the bait stays frozen and nothing else tastes like the bait.
I also use it on short trips to take
ice for the
beer esky. Cans in an
ice slurry, the best bar none. It's amazing how much
ice you store in a 15L freezer (i have the DC45L model, well not that amazing, about 15L i spose, but still it seems like a lot).

It is 50L, 40
fridge and 10 freezer. The ACC compressor is rated as one of the lowest power draw compressors and is 12V / 24V.
We have kept the 240V separate to keep the weight down but will be supplied free of charge with every
fridge.
The transit bags are also included free of charge.
We are aiming at $700 to $900 but will first discuss with our retail outlets.
They should be in stock in 60 days.
Regards
Derek.

The compressors are made in Spain by ACC - Italy.
Cabinets are made in Ningbo, R.O.C.
3 year warranty on compressor - back to base.
I am currently working on a dealer network.

Mick
We picked up aBbushman from
Sydney show last April.
It is really great. We have the collar and lids that make it a 42ltr or 52 ltrs.
The 2v0v attachment has a built in fan.
We (read wife) mainly use it as a freezer and can't believe how little power it uses on a trip.
Would highly recommend.

For me the chescold 3 way rc 1180 is the go. No need to buy a wind farm
solar power coal fired or nuclear power station to run it.
Wire it properly on 12 v and no problems . The best most sensible
fridge for
camping .

Hi guys, i've spent the last week reading through this
forum and Googling like a mad thing....
And hoping for some collective wisdom.
Typically we go
camping and stay in one place for a week or so... After all the reading the ultimate
solution would be an AGM second
battery combined with 80-120W of
Solar.. unfortunately the wife just won't let me spend the $3K at the moment :-)
So, been looking very closely at the Chescold 1180, I'm a little concerned if its going to be able to handle the temperatures. I live in
Canberra and we regularly get days over 35c and up to 40c....
Would a love to hear from some people who own one.
Thanks kindly.
PS I drive a Landy and i'm avoiding the whole Weaco / Engel debate big time :-)

Hi 75troopy
I already own the finch
fridge and only last friday decided to buy the rc 1180. Have been very pleased with the finch
fridge but wanted to spoil myself . Today in
Perth the forecast temperature was 36 degrees so decided to do some testing on the
fridge to see if it is O.K.
I too googled to try and find something about what kind of performance I should expect from the
fridge. This way I could compare to check I haven't got a dud etc. I couldn't find what I was looking for so set up the
fridge in the garage and put in my two way in/out digital thermometer to try and get some readings.
I did have the
fridge on overnight then by the time I got to the garage and set up the gas bottle and thermometer the temperature inside the freezer bit was -6.9 and the outside temperature was 32.2 deg.
Just now a good 3-4 hours at 2.06pm the outside temp according to my thermometer was 36.3deg and inside the freezer bit of the rc-1180 it was minus 10.9deg. As it is so hot well we dont get much hotter here in
Perth I seem to think that that sort of performance seems o.k. Intend to ring up a repairer over here just to check as I have know idea if that is good bad or otherwise.
That is 47.2 below ambient. Cheers and good luck with whatever you decide.
