Hi guys

Picked up the new car just before Xmas. After four days in the shop, all the old gear has been reinstalled (plus some extras).

Let me tell you, it's a thing of beauty. I talk to it every morning. Run my hands over those sensual curves and perve on her private parts (I'll have to stop doing that).

In the previous car the back seats were taken out and replaced by an extended drawer system (I sleep in the car).

This created what the family commonly refers as "DD's" three and a half acres. DD is a bleep zu Cross and an absolute lunatic when it comes to car travel.

The problems I've had to put up with from this dog before the drawer system was reinstalled was something to be experience. I was sent to Coventry for a week.

Now it's back in place, we're mates again.

Now that I've got the gear together again, I'm looking forward to the back bocks. To all those that responded to my early post (not you Hairy) many thanks.

l'll head up to Arnhem Land and do some visit'n, fish'n an shoot'n.

Before I close. Please, Oh please, don't come back to me with advice on how I should prepare the car, shooting feral animals, road conditions, permits, safety in the bush and how I should prepare for death or divorce....please.

In particular, I don't want any response from Hairy, Willem,Truckster, Mike, Handy and all you other non sensitive human persons. Try to behave.

Have to go now and, cuddle my new sensual object....!

Regards

Kim

Yes - there appears to be a fine line (well, two letters) between "4WD and senuality" (sic) and "4WD and senility":)
Have fun
Cheers
Greg
PS I expect drinking good wine would have same effect...just costs you more.

Sadly this is true. I've lost the plot.

Going back to your recent post. The Big Reds that we had to put up with in the 50's at Tailem Bend where big animals. We lost a lot of dogs back in those days.

Well.........
You really know how to hurt someones feelings dont you!
I hope your proud of your hurtful comments!

But hey Im a forgiving bloke!!!!
Do you know about the new speed limits in the NT?
If your planning on travelling through Aboriginal land you will need a permit and if you want to shoot things you need a gun licence and a hunting permit except of course they are the two legged variety of feral (no bag limmit on them mongrals)
but you will need somwhere to secure to keep your gun (back seat doesnt pass anymore) and youve brobably heard about the road conditions but hey Im going to tell you anyway, never can have two much advice which reminds me, I suggest you do a 4wd course before leaving home, wouldnt like to have to set off thet EPIRB!!!
Which brings me to another thing BEER you realise you will be travelling through the harsh Australian desert and a mans not a camel, people have been known to perish out here so keep your fluids up and being BEER is 90 percent water you can never cary too much.
Rules are there to be broken and I think it goes "Its only illegal if you get caught!"
Have I missed anythng?
Dont hesitate to contact me for more advice
Cheers

PS Dont forget your golf club (cane toads)
PPS One other thing....Fishing rod holders are for carrying fishing rods not for carrying drugs!

Is there really an issue with securing firearms in a vehicle in the Territory now - this has always been a mute point of law and one largely overlooked in all states afaik?

Even if you dont own a gun!

I think that's pretty much the same in Vic Hairy (although makes little sense if you don't actually own a firearm! :) but I was more interested in your comment about firearms security in vehicles - which is a problem, no question - has the NT suddenly taken a new stance on this particular issue?

Dont really no the legalities (here we go Ill get crucified now for being a law breaking redneck) but I quite often have a rifle under the seat and ive never been questioned about it. Like anything if your not a smart arrse and have a reason to have one you will probably be alright.

Gidday Hairy,

Your a bloody stirrer (worst than me)!

What do you mean "back seat pass". I don't have a back seat. Obviously I going to get into trouble again.

Seriously, the rifle is in a locked Kolpin Gun Boot. The boot is also cabled locked. The firing mechanism is locked and the bolt is secure in the drawer system. If the thieving b*stards get past that before I return from the pub, they can have the rifle.

Yes I'm going to use an EPIRB rather than a shovel on this trip. I get very upset when people buggar the bush using these primitive tools (shovels). This sort of behaviour has to stop!

No I hadn't heard about the road conditions. Is there a pot hole somewhere?

I never drink beer unless forced to do so.

Damn. Forgot about the golf club. I'll call in and pinch one of yours.

Hairy your advice has been very helpful. Couple of questions:

Are there numerous car washing facilities in Arnhem Land. I don't want to get my brand new 4WD dirty?

Are there tame crocs in the Gove Peninsula I can swim with?

Can I tell outlandish stories to nubile ladies visiting from overseas. Is this still permitted in the NT?

Are white tyres better than black tyres to keep the operating temperature down?

If something go's wrong, such as unreasonable operating hours (pub) can you advise me how to set off the EPIRB?

Regards

Kim

PS Sorry to hurt your feelings. Was It painfull? I should have known better.

Gday Kim
With the crocs you need to make a fist stick out your thumb and pinkie and rotate your fist clockwise and then anti clockwise while making a noise like UUUMMMMM.
Garunteed the croc wall fall asleep and you can do anything with him. Trust me !!!!
Take your German Dictionary because EPIRB instruction are obviously written in German and unless you want to get iyourself n trouble dont say that black or white word atleast until you get over the border. (its a swear word down there isnt it?)
And yeh Bullshiiting is still a common pass time.

Cheers

Tried this once on a pig. For some reason it did'nt work!

Gidday Mike

In answer to your question. Yes all firearms must be contained within a safe. The bolt and ammo must be stored in another secure area. Police in Victoria attempt to enforce this requirement.

To get a shooters licence now is a long and drawn out experience. Two of the requirements are a Shooters Safety Course and membership to an organisation such as the SSAA or local club. I fully support this because they do some great work with the kids.

As far as Interstate travel is concerned, It's a mixed bag. WA for example require a one off permit to shoot in the bush and this must be supported by a property owner.

In very remote areas, the chances of getting busted are small. However, I have a rather expensive rifle and don't want to loose it. I don't follow the rules because of that, but more so to encourage responsible behaviour.

I'll get off my soap box now

Regards

Kim

As far as I know, there's no hard and fast rule about firearm transportation security. I voluntarily had an approved handgun safe (recorded and noted by the WA Police Firearms Branch) blind bolted in my Patrol behind the centre console which I installed out of personal responsibility rather than law. It meant I lost the footroom for the middle seat in the back, but who wants to sit there anyway. You can also use a quality bike lock to scure a bolt action through the receiver and mag well to a point on the vehicle. These locks are designed with hardened strands of steel to stop the use of bolt cutters and hacksaws.

The lttle handgun safe was useful for storing the bolt for my rifle. (a rifle without a bolt is called a stick) however I also found it useful for the camera, GPS, CD's, sunnies etc in areas that were more 'restless' shall we say. Handy bit of gear.

Re: the licencing. I've got all my longarms registered on 'Destruction of Vermin' permits which allows me to carry them to and from properties for that purpose.

Quote "this has always been a mute point of law and one largely overlooked in all states afaik?"

Is that a silent point of law or do you mean a moot point?
