My 4by got stolen last nite... I know who's got it too but for reasons of my own ide rather not say any more bout it than that (altho i can guarantee that i am legit in every way)... Called the police but there are certain complications... this is a very delicate issue... The trek is probably from Castle Hill (Syd) to "Mawulabar" or something similar sounding... in QLD or close to the QLD/NSW border... plates are H074BY (Hot 4by) on red plates and its a white gq with bullbar and asshole driver... I just want it back :( And my dog back... and yes they are linked... :( :(

Thanks for any help.

P.s. if you do see him, contact the cops... just to be safer. Thanks again, Anand.

Learn to spell first before you dig the boot in.

Basically by the nature of the post it lends itself towards disbelief. Lot s of IFS and BUTS. Later in the thread we learn of deals which have gone wrong. Maybe it is a lovers quarrel or a brotherly dispute but by all accounts the vehicle isn't stolen as indicated. And maybe the dog hasn't been kidnapped but has gone along for the ride with it's owner. Who knows?

Too many Cry Wolf................Hence my comments.

Having said that, i guess rereading my first post it does sound aweful sus. However, did you really want the history and circumstances around us both? Your first post, where you said something along the lines of "it is not condusive to post your domestic grievances on the forums" suggest that you dont. So as a way around this I tried to fill spaces in the story while still maintaining what happened. I considered the 4by mine from the outset, but then learnt i had no claim to it. I dont think i have gone about this dishonestly at all. I dont suppose you own a dog do you? Because if you did you would realise the incensitivity of suggesting that i was lying about losing my dog...

Im sorry if i seem to be attacking your character, but perhaps you can appreciate that you are attacking mine...

Anand.

At any time, Anand, life can present us with difficulties we never thought we would have to face - people, even those we think we know, can do things which seem inexplicable - under these circumstances some may judge you based upon little or no knowledge - don't worry about it :) just do what you think is right - it's your life: not their's.

Harsh it may seem but if someone does not tell you these things then how will you ever learn.

We can go around in circles discussing whether or not the vehicle was stolen or whether or not the dog belongs to you. I don't know that but at the outset you stated the vehicle was stolen and then complications set in. Sorry but you are wrong to post misleading information on a public forum(apart from April Fools jokes or unless it is a wind-up as I have done here before) to get a vote of sympathy from the Aunties here on EO.

Take it on the chin and move on.

Hi 4wdNewbie,
First chance I've had to get on the computer. Spotted vehicle in Murwillumbah last Friday arvo parked infront of a car yard for commercial vehicles. It had writing all over it in different colour fleuro marker pens? I was travelling the other direction and couldn't read the writing. Did a u-turn up the road but it was gone by the time I got back there.

Lol i dunno wat the fleuro could be... Maybe it got impounded or something... Dont suppose you would have been able to see a dog in the car? Which i doubt anyways because the tints pretty dark... Last I heard from him he was coming back in a few days. Good to see it and he are still on the road at least. Im very curious to know what the writing could be... Anyone care to hazard a guess?? Also wat do you do at a car yard for commercial vehicles? I'm guessing sell vehicles... but im hoping not...

Here's some more details; the writing was very neat and the lettering was about 40mm tall at a guess. I didn't see a dog. There were two blokes near the car, one older than the other, looking through the fence of the sale yard at a light truck. That's all I've got for ya.

According to some idiots who frequent this forum, the 'misappropriation' of your vehicle and dog is not an offence. These are the same ignorant, pea-brain, slow-talking nerds who claim that re the breaking of laws ...'it's only an offence if you get caught '. Wonder how they would react if THEIR 4x4 went missing. VERY INTERESTING.

Hope you can sort out your problems. I'm cheering for the dog.

Hi Anand,
Couple of things,

Did I see this vehicle earlier this week during daylight hours in Newcastle?
Either this one or another white "Nissord" with remarkably similar number plates.

If you truly are the owner of this vehicle and you report it and the dog stolen regardless of who stole it the police are obliged to act.

Mate, as you say, there's a tad more to this than an aledged stolen vehicle!!

Very unlikely you saw it in newcastle. Unless someones doin midnight runs in it that i dont know of, or you saw it this morning Well like i said before he has broken no legal law as such... I was unwilling to put this out on the forum as Willem is right in saying I have no right to put my domestic grievances on these forums. BUT... the real trick lies in that altho i paid the said individual off for the maverick (for a grand total of $6,400) we never got around to changing the names over... So having paid him for it i believe it is mine, while in the RTA and so on's eyes im sure it is still legally his, and as he has broken no law, Police cant do didly squat. So yea. Thats where i stand... up bleep creek without a maverick...

Just remember not all contracts have to be written to be contracts, and if you have evidence of the payment, that is a large part of the contract.

If you have a contract where you got the car and he got the money, he is in breach of contract (assuming he got all the money), and whilst you have no protection in the RTA, you have protection in the courts.

You need legal advice.

Don`t know about NSW rego papers etc, but on the Vic rego paers it states (in fine writing too) " The vehicle register records the identification details of each vehicle and the name and address of the registered opertor of the vehicle. It is not a register of vehicle ownership (title)."
In laymens terms - just because the vehicle is registered in a persons name, does not make them the owner of the vehicle. I guess you need proof of purchase for ownership, like a reciept or sales contract.

Well if you consider it yours and you want it back you should get the legal advice.
The name on the rego papers doesnt necessarily mean you are the owner of the vehicle,it only means you are the person legally responsible for it(under WA law anyway)

Two days ago it seemed important, now you seem to walking away from it.

Hi there buddy, I see your dilema but hopefully you get both back and its a shame you dont have some form of reciept for the purchase or money differance what ever the situation. You obviously know where the vehicle is being taken too and if he's that much off an asshol@ at least have the decency to return mans best friend ie your dog. I have actually seen that vehicle around before but was obviously you driving it. Technically its his vehicle as its in his name and cops dont usually get involved in those sort of situations unless the vehicle was taken and was in your name and didnt get your permission to drive it then would be classed as stolen dont need to be really saying it as you would know any way. Buddy I really hope you get the whole lot back and in one piece but I'm relly hoping you get your friend back mainly and not wondering the highway some where. Surely if you know the person they wouldnt do this to the dog I hope. Best of luck Regards Steve M

Hope you get the car and yer little mate back. It's a heartbreaker. You have my sympathies.

Friend had a similar story with police 'IN-ACTION" guy at a pub - reversed his 4x4 into the side of my mates hyundai ( his second car - main car was a lux ) a Guy from inside the pub witnessed it - took the guys number plate and gave it to my mate - another guy gave my mate the guys name also - with this info he went to blacktown police.

There reply - they cant do a thing about it - he should refer it to the insurance company and let them chase the guy. as the hyundai was not insured - he could not do a thing and police would nto give any info on the guys insurance details.

You do all the work for the cops - provide witnesses and they still cant do anything - yet they sit behind a speed gun catching people doing 5 Km over the limit - makes you wonder doesnt it ?

Boc,
The Blacktown coppers must have changed. When I fell victim to a similar incident a few years ago, the cop said "I can't give you that information". He then promptly printed out the driver's details, put the printout on the desk upside down, then said "hang on, I'll be back in a sec" then left the room for about 2 mins. Of course I copied the details down.

When he came back, he gave me 'the look' (wry grin) and said "sorry mate, I can't help you with this matter", grabbed the printout and walked off.

They aren't all that bad......

So Bilbo, what can the police do if the vehicle is towed to a workshop and stripped ,never to see the light of day except as parts.

Did you expect a door to door search?

My old falcon got stolen once and they were contacting me at 5am to tell me they they had found it.
The car was WA regoed and it was stolen found in St Kilda and traced to my Melbourne address before I even knew it was gone.

Finding a stolen car is more about luck than anything else ,especially landcruisers.
They have lots of very easily sold expensive parts and are the targets of professionals rather than joy riders.
You seem to infer the police were lazy or disinterested in your case and I'm pointing what a good job they do when things go right for them.

Or were you just having a winge because you were not the centre of attention when you were at the station reporting it Oh poor you LOL

Ross,

",,,,,,, The centre of attention,,,,,,,at the station,,,,,,,"???

You're joking I'm sure.

I phoned 'em up immediately I knew it was gone. I gave 'em the rego number, date and time etc. I asked 'em should I come down to the station to fill in some more details, Answer? "No thanks, we don't need anymore info"

I then asked 'em, well then, could I expect someone to come down and ask me some further questions. Answer,"No we haven't got the people to do that"

I then asked 'em what sort of thing happens from here. Answer,' Not much, we put it out to all cars and wait"

I asked," Is that all that gets done". Answer,"Yes, unless you want to go look for it yourself,OK?"

Answer," Hmm yep - OK I suppose" Put down phone.

Never heard another thing from 'em. Not a flamin' thing.

As an addition, my son's Nissan 200 SX was stolen from his driveway by a burglar that broke into his house and took his car keys while he was at a soccer match. His car keys were hidden in a bedroom bottom drawer from which the burglar also stole a very expensive gold ring that was a family heirloom. My son phoned the police. Nothing happened. Nobody showed up at his place to check anything. No forensics, no statment, no photos.

2 weeks later the car was found wrapped around a power pole at 3.00 am by police that had been chasing it in a high speed pursuit. It was almost a write-off. One of our "non-reflectives" was driving it.

3 weeks after the break-in, a detective turns up at my son's place to take a statement. When asked why the police didn't show up sooner than this - a week after the car had been found written off, the detective told him," Oh we knew who did it but we just couldn't catch him at his house so we could arrest him,,,,,,,he wasn't home"

This is all practically verbatim.

Not very encouraging is it.

Police are only here to harrass the law abiding taxpayer, they pay up cash in fines,,,,,,,,the rest are at liberty to do as they please, 'cos they're too hard to catch & they also cost money to keep in prison.

Let the insurance companies do the finding of stolen goods. It costs less.

Pathetic.

'n Ross,

This really cracks me up this does,,,,,,,,,,,,,"and I'm pointing what a good job they do when things go right for them,,,,,,,,"

Any silly bugger can do a good job at anything when things "go right for 'em"!~!.

Geez - I could be a neurosurgeon as long as everything went right for me. I could beat Tiger Woods when things go right for me, I could beat Australia at cricket when things are going my way,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

As my old Operations Manager used to say to me, "Les, I don't pay you to look after my refinery when things are going well, I pay you to fix it when things are going wrong - now GTF out there and fix it!~!

The place was on fire at the time,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Yeappo. No use being angry now... just wait and see. And yea you are right... we have all (me and the fam) become a tad philosophical about the whole drama... Nice to take a step back and see things for wat they are really worth once in a while, however expensive it may be.

I sincerely hope you get your dog back. I can understand to lose a mate like that would be upsetting.

As far as your vehicle is concerned, best of luck, but I think you got stiffed and you allowed yourself to get stiffed. Better luck next time.

Nice looking dog, I hope it works ok for the pooch.

Yep... im an honest bloke... trust is a biggie for me and cos i put so much on being honest, i kinda expect it of others. Bit naive i know... thats why i get stiffed.

Thanks for all the help and support guys. I really do appreciate all the kind words. Thats what i love about these forums, how everyone bands together. Now that ive got a taste of the high life (road clearance 8D ) i dont think i could go back... so if this 4by disappears, another will take its place. Bigger and better. I do have one last question, i have about $2800-$3000 worth of audio gear in the 4by (excessive, maybe... but im young :P) I bought most of it, or at least the really expensive bits off of ebay and was wondering that if push came to shove could that be enough to get it all back and prove ownership? Cos i really loved that setup...

Ill let you know the what happens in the end.

Your pal,
Anand.

Hey Anand,
Mate, wouldn't be too worried about the car, creeps like that never really get anywhere in life, and remember, everything happens for a reason.
Though I reckon if someone did that to my puppy I'd be on a bus hunting them down with a big steel bar, there's absolutely no need to involve innocent animals in personal problems, he deserves everything he gets if you ever track him down.
Hope you get your puppy back.

how can the number plates be in your name but you not own the car??
if the plates are in your name then you must have transferred the rego and therefore surely you have a legal claim??
in the words of the lovely Pauline "please explain"'

Nah, how plates work in NSW anyways, The plates are a separate entity from the car. While the car is property of the individual who has the papers (as i have so learned :P), the plates are the property of the RTA. Having said that, I was the one who purchased the rights to display the plates. I did however need his permission to get them put on his truck. So i paid the $30 to get em made and shipped out + the extra $130 per year to keep the right to display them. Hope that straightens things out.

Cheers, Anand.

Haha good to see im being noticed around here :P And ok to clarify... Dad bought it off an elderly couple. Who seemed like seasoned 4wders... heck they had 2 totally different sets of tyres they gave us. Dad used it for a bit when he went down to Tassie for a bit *cough* midlife crisis *cough* . Then it just sat there for a good 9 months collecting dust. I got sick of the fully sick Excel i had and sold that (to mum) and bought the Maverick off of dad (with 2 sets of tyres that would not pass rego ): ). Did a quick sound system swap, and i was in business! Haha sorry for the stuffup!

As they say the truth will set you free... I replyed down the bottom instead of following up to this one . Basically, i tried to tell the story as truthfully as i could while not mentioning my dad at all... Hope that explanation does it for yas, last thing i want here is to be thought of as a liar, or someone using the poeple on this forum, cos you are a great lot of people.

So what we seem to be saying here is "his dad's nicked it back for another ("cough") mid life crisis?"

Is that it?

Yep got it in one. Hope you guys can now see what the "complications" lied... And why i was adjusting the story to try protect his identity. Since its out there now... ill tell ya how Ace fits in. I dont think he "stole" Ace per se (plus its kinda his too, i guess), he took it with him when he left on the 1st. Came back without it on the 13th (i think) with a rental car. So when he left with the gq next day we traced the rental back to the guy who owned it, and he recalled my dad saying, " bleep , the kids are gonna kill me, ive lost their dog." So the GQ is a writeoff as far as im concerned unless he comes back. Doesnt matter, already lookin at a replacement GQ, forerunner or maybe a landie of sorts (ill probably need some advice when it comes time). Either way the gq is of little consequence now... Ace is all im after.

Funny how close you were to it Willem, you got it all but my "angle" :P

Anyway, thats more than i care to put out their on the internet. Gotsta keep some secrets :) However it did cross my mind that people would pick up on that eventually :P

Thanks again for all the support. And to the supersleuths that cracked the code, you both get 10 points. :P

Cheers, Anand.

So it seems like a load of crap from the beginning???

Your old man takes his car and goes off with the family dog and you get x-number of people on here pouring out their sympathy to you!!!

Willem was absolutely correct.

I reckon "Newbie" did OK. A bit melodramatic maybe but he got the word out that his car was stolen. After all we do try to help each other on here - most of the time eh!

But I wouldn't have gone on about the 'in & outs of a ducks guts" - & I'm a BIG offender at that tactic. It would have been better to just say it's been stolen, where from and when, description and rego number. Nothing else was needed. Then instead of us all slinging mud all over the place we'd have all been out looking for it.

Job done.
