Looks good,
Get a compression
test on the donk (I assume its a diesel).
Check the oil in all diffs & transfer case (water, scrunge & metal).
All good Happy Days.

In my opinion , keep looking for one that has more extras than that . What is a winch bar without a warn winch . Theres another $2000 . No mention of duel batteries . Side steps are standard . Arb side rails would set you back another $750 . Add on the price to change all the oils and get your radiator guy to flush out and replace the coolant and theres another couple of hundred . Your $22000 troopy is heading up around the $25000 mark and its 15 years old .

Keep looking.
_Very_ (too!?) low mileage.
Vehicle is 15 years old - at $22K? too expensive
Even if the mileage is genuine - at that age and price I'd look for other options - have you considered other makes/models?

Hi Pete,
Troopies are great vehicles. But just as an example, I bought a '93, 80 series 18 months ago for $19,000. It was bog standard, with 105k. Give it a good drive and you will be able to tell if the engine and gearbox have only done the k's they say it has.
Diff locks - have you considered them before and done research? Personally I would love ARB diff locks. Find out what type this vehicle has and if they are what you want.
Looks like a beast! Not a diesel though ;-))))

Gday Pete,
Just had a look at it on Carsales.com.au - looks like its at Peter James Motors on South Rd.
#1 Are you sure you want a petrol troopie?? It is the first of the 4.5 litre models. Its a great model, very capable vehicle, with loads of power from the 1FZ-FE motor. You'll get about 18 l/100k, but fuel consumption will be high when offroading. And it should have the stronger gearbox. But your fuel range won't be the same as the diesel models when you're out in the bush.
It has leaf springs all round, if you're "comfortable" with that.
It has the deluxe ARB bullbar instaed of teh usual "commercial" bar, so you can fit the bigger
winches in there.
It has difflocks - I'd hope these are ARB. If not I'd be bothered.
The tyres are getting old - Kelly MSR have been off the market, and they are likely to be 15inch tyres, so aren't expensive anyway.
They are asking way too much for a Petrol Troopie, even given the low kilometers - diff locks and nice bullbar dont add value. They are asking a high price because it is an uncommon colour (dark blue) and low kms. It looks in nice nick though, and with that colour, chnaces are that its been privately owned.
Cheers
Phil

Good points, Phil,
I forgot to mention the price difference between petrols and diesels. and that 'extras don't add value'. Inevitably, people try to recuperate the money they have spent on accessories when selling their vehicle; but what is the vehicle worth?

The older ones are getting way cheaper.. I bought
mine 6 months ago for $4K :-)
It's a 75 series 1985 with around 150K on the clock...!
At the time we had quite a few around the same age showing up with prices up to $8K.
Not sure if that helps at all....

Looks to be in good condition, But it would be to dear if it was a diesel, I reckon its worth about $12,000.00. Similar age ones in diesel are going for less than $10,000.00 Good luck Pete

Hi Pete
Just noticed a 99 model deisel in EO trader for $19,000 136,000k.
Sounds a better buy for the money.
The one you are looking at is way overpriced, even though it maybe a good rig.
Know 2 people that have recently bought mid 90's 80 series petrols for around $13,000 with lots of trimmings.
Cheers Pesty

Keep looking,
Phil G has summed it up perfectly.
Even if it was a diesel, RV Troopy's of that age are fitted with the normally exasperating 1HZzz diesel.

Hi Pajman Pete,
I have the troopie in the trader and it is on ebay at the moment if you want to see more pics. It finishes on the 15th.
Site Link
At least you can see that you can get a current model for less than what they are asking.
Regards

I think Troopyman Pete! That may be some time off yet. We have to find one we like and I may be able to get one on a salary sacrifice.
What are you doing on the beach at
Cape Leveque? I thought you would have seen it too many times from the water side!
Cheers

Having seen the
Kimberley coast in some detail over the years, it was fascinating to see it from land, a totally different perspective.
Also travelling with the family gives you a new insight. For instance, did you know that there is heaps to do and see in
Broome without going to the Roey? It was certainly news to me.
Matt.

Thanks for all the reply's guys,
I thought it was over priced (by a fair bit) and not being up on the motor designations thought it was a diesel but we could only see it through the fence. We were after a diesel anyway and would like a RV for the seating. We will need a second row for a few more years until the kids all leave the nest.
We will keep looking. We love our paj and it will be a wrench to retire her, but I have had a hankering after a troopy for years and SWMBO has given tentative approval to proceed.
Cheers
Pete
