Cruizn,
They are 'safe'. Provided all is well they do not gas and they won't leak as the acid is Absorbed into Glass Mat (hence AGM) plates. The gases are produced during charging - a necessary part of the process but they recombine in the plates and hence do not become free gas. Lots of peple use them inside without a problem. I did for a while but now have it under the bonnet.
cheers

If your gas installation has been done correctly, all possible leaking points should be shrouded and these shrouds vented to the outside air. If they are not done properly then you are in danger whether you have a battery there or not. Check it out.
