Don't let tyres on a second hand 4by influence your decision.
Also it's Sunday morning so stop SHOUTING. :)

Either truck will be less capable offroad than your GQ, do you need a 7 seater? My wifes Jack (3.5 man 2001) is very thirsty and has cost a bit in maintainance so they are not cheap to run IMO. Not that the challenger would be much better on fuel I imagine.

Good luck with your decision.
Trevor.

Yep I agree, better to spend that money and find a better GQ or use it to rebuild the one you have.
Neither of the replacements you are looking at will be as good off road as your trol.
Just my thoughts.

Cheers Pesty

V6 Patrol,

Mate never owned a Challenger so I won't comment on something I know nothing about. The Jackaroo on the other hand is a rather surprising vehicle with more than enough 4wding capability. I had a 97 Model with a 3.1ltr TDi and it performed very well, even surprising many within the 4wd club on it's abilities. Has previously said I would look at a Diesel version, the 3lt Jacks have a great reliable engine and far better on fuel. Good luck with your vehicle hunt.......

Hi V - you mention shopping; parking, appartments and only occassional 4WD.
Have you considered a Subaru Forrester, or an X-Trail?
These both have a good reputation; comapst enough for carparks and city use ; are much easier for the ladies to handle, plus have 4WD capability. (saw a Forrester at Coongie lakes - west of Innaminca, last year and it had to cross the flooded Cooper to get there).
Check the specs, and I think you will be surprised at the towing capability also.

The challenger has excellent fuel economy for a petrol, down to 11l per 100k if manual, but less off road ability than Jack due to less suspension travel. Isuzu parts are very expensive, DO not touch a 3lt diesel they are nearly as unreliable as 3lt patrols. They are on their 3rd or 4th recall fer injector problems. The v6 is very long lived( mate was service manager for gm dealer and never seen a worn out one) but thirsty in auto, better in manual. Condition is every thing in a 2nd hand vehicle
Cheers Pete

I dont know anything about the Challenger But recently acquired a 2000 Jack,
3.5 V6 auto. I'm getting 12L per 100k driven sedately, & I am impressed with how it drives & rides. Plenty of power if you want it but no doubt at a cost. I plan to tow a camper trailer to Broome & back in a couple of months so may have a different opinion then. Only done 85k so dont really expect any hassles. A Jack wont solve
any parking problems you already have with a Nissan though, but you are right
about more room. Anyway, as I said , havent used it much yet, but I am impressed
so far, & find it loses little against Prado or Patrol, on road anyway, & I couldnt
find any of those with 85k for under $15k.....oldbaz

Standard tank is only 85L I think, but I have obtained a 135L from another Jack owner on this forum so that will cure the problem of having to carry too much
fuel....oldbaz.
