I am in the process of planning a trip from Geelong Vic to
Cape York around June 2007. I am interested in finding out the best way to go and
places etc to see and experience along the way. I will be travelling via
Brisbane, and have a week to fill in between
home and there at the most. Have heard that the
Kidman Way might be the way to go.
Will be travelling with others from
Brisbane to
Cape York and part way back but interested in perhaps
Carnarvon Gorge on way
home. What else?
Have a total of 6 weeks (3 of these
Cape York). We will be travelling in a Landrover Discovery towing a an outback off-road trailer.
Interested in hearing from anyone with great ideas or reports on what to do.
John

Eric,
When are you guys going to update your website.
I did the trip to the tip with Peter in July of last year and it was just fantastic. He was just Soooo laid back. Andrew was just the Bees knees. I don't think that I've met anyone who was so willing to assist.
Most of the crew who did the July trip have tried to contact Peter with no response.
Cheers
Richard

Thanks for the assistance Eric. I've just sent you the E-mail.
If anybody else is viewing this, and thinking of a tag along tour to
Cape York, then I can attest to the fact that these guys from
Cape York Connections are just great.
Knowledgeable, Professional, at the same time laid back and very definitely 'know their stuff'.
Our group have established a great friendship as a result of the tour.
I can highly recommend them.
Cheers
Richard

Thanks Eric,
Michelle contacted me as soon as you passed on the E-mail.
I've contacted both several times since.
About all I can do now is hope that Pete / Sheldon get
well (is that the right term) as soon as possible.
I'm bleep tered to learn that they are ill.
Cheers
Richard

Hi
John
Try the
Darling River Run on your way north. We did that in September last year.
Cheryl :)

John, the
Kidman way up to
Mareeba is probably the most direct & will maximise your time on the Cape. Things worth a look on the way up are Porcupine
Gorge, the Undera Lava tubes,
Chillagoe caves & Palmer river gold fields then on the way back
Cape Melville, Cape Flattery,
Cooktown & the
Daintree. Around
Cairns a boat trip to the Barrier Reef,
Kuranda rail & Skyway. On our 6 week trip we found the run down to
Townsville interesting before cutting back inland. If you own a boat & love fishing I recommend not to do any side trips along the way & spend 5 weeks on the Cape instead. Just brilliant :-)
Cheers Craig...........

Hi Holly2
Post and email address and I will send you a copy of the itinerary I used to go from
Canberra to
Cape York. Has a heap of telephone number and gps coords for campsites etc. Had a group of six vehicles - 2 with campertrailers.
Cheers

Hi Holly2,
My last trip to the Cape was for 2 months and I ran out of time to see a couple of spots. I would be suggesting on using as many of those 6 weeks up there! Not sure of your plans when there but you'll wish you had more time. Sure, we did our first trip in 3 weeks and made do with the time but there is a lot to see and do.
Kind regards
