Hi

1.
Has anyone had 1st hand experience with the Pirelli Scorpion AT tyre? How do they compare against the Copper Sure Trac and Goodrich T/A ko in Light Truck specification type?

2.
Any knowledge about using 265/75R16 112S LTs on a GU Patrol Stn Wgn instead of 265/70R16 112S car type tyres as fitted as original equipment and specified on the tyre placard.

My tyre dealer says it is illegal to fit 265/75R16 LTs to my vehicle as they have a different profile to that specified on the placard. If fitted, it may possibly be an excuse for an Insurance Company to deny coverage in the event of an accident. He blames the State Government Motor Registry bureaucrats and points out that the Patrol Cab Chassis with coil springs is virtually the same vehicle however its tyre placard specifies LT 265/75R16 112S.

Many GU Patrols Stn Wgn are running around on LT265/75R16 tyres, are the owners blissfully ignorant or do they know something that I don't?

Thanks in anticipation

Regards
Phil

ADR allows a wheel tyre combination of the diameter of the 265/75/16 on the Patrol, but it is not placarded so cannot be fitted. The easy fix is to get the pacard and stick it inside your glovebox alongside the original. Some patrol models are so placarded from the factory.

Thanks David and Justine

I will do as you suggested.

The only issue is that the speedo may read differently but the GU already reads about 116 kph when my GPS reads 110kph, so any change because of tyre size is just a variation on an inaccurate reading anyway.

I think I heard years ago that the DX series of GU11 placard specified 265/75R 16 at the same time that the ST series specified 267/70R 16 on the same 16 inch steel rims.

Cheers
Phil

Placard (Part# 99090VB000A) is available from Nissan dealer Parts Dept. for around $15 (from memory)....

This allows the fitting of 265/75R16LT tyres which shall have a Maximum Load rating of not less than 1150kg or Load Index 109, and a Speed Category symbol not less than "N"....

With the 265/75's fitted, my speedo reads within a cat's whisker of the GPS reading, so yours will no doubt do likewise.....

Hi Ed. C

Thanks for your advice. I will chase up a replacement placard from Mr Nissan.

Re Speedo readings.
If 265/75 16 tyres give an accurate kph reading, it begs the question should they be original equipment and did Nissan decide to save a few $s by fitting 265/70.

Cheers

Hi Phil,
I have moved over to Pirelli Scorpions AT's from the horrid Goodyear Wranglers fitted to my Frontera from new.

I have Falken's on the Patrol and if ever they wear out, I will have no hesitation fitting them to it.
I wouldn't normally fit an AT tyre but the Frontera is the main family vehicle and they ride very well on black top. Tehy are really good on dirt and mud as well (for an AT). They seem very sure footed and I have never had a 'moment' since fitting them. I couldn't wait to get the Wranglers off as it was a daily event having these 'moments' and they still had a fair bit of wear left.

For the Pirelli's I like the low noise, good grip on all surfaces and good response. Oh and the price is not bad either.

Cheers Cam.
