Folks,
My family (Me,My Wife, 2 girls under 4 and the dog) want to go to Cania
gorge just before
easter. Of the 2 caravan parks out there 1 is a Big4 and the other a private affair I think. Because the dog is coming with us the Big 4 is out so we'll have to stay at the Tourist Retreat. Has anyone stayed here and how was it. We'll be in our camper trailer so it will probably be an unpowered site. Any comments are appreciated.
Cheers Drew

Hi Drew
We were at Cania
Gorge in October, and stayed at the Big4, which as you said does not permit pets. Its the popular one, with heaps of activities etc....
However, the other one, which is a Top Tourist Park, looked fine, and there were people staying there each time we went past. I note from the AAA book that it does accept pets, with conditions as usual.
It was
well grassed, nearer the majority of tracks, and I strongly suspect you would be fine going there. Generally we can "smell" a bad park by looking at it, and this one looked fine. Top Tourist parks are usually fine.
I'd go there - but book pretty soon though.

Stayed there with the camper. Great park & they have a great campfire each night, very friendly owners and they ensure a relaxed atmosphere. Good clean facilites.
The unpowered area was my preference, larger and more private. Lovely setting. Great access to the walks from this park too. The
dam is
well worth looking at, we did some fishing with no luck but were given a bass and yellowbelly from one of the fishos on the
boat ramp. The park has a fish cleaning setup as
well.
Nice part of the world.
Good butcher in
Monto also :)

While there,
check out the WW-II Liberator wreck (Beautiful Betsy) up in the Kroombit Tops. A great day's drive all up, and a permit required.

Meant to mention, we stayed at the Cania
Gorge Caravan & Tourist Park, which was great. But they do bird feeding, and wildlife (wallabies, etc) come in at dusk, so pets would not be welcome.

You know what, if you lived near me - my teenage kids would be more than happy to feed and maybe walk your dog for 10-20 bucks for 2 weeks while you holiday in peace with your kids. Its just a thought!

Zha Zha,
Thanks for the offer, we're up in central qld and I would normally try and get someone to look after her but she's nearly a 13yo staffy. Hate for something to happen while we're away. I have booked the Top tourist retreat caravan park after the feed back from the
forum. They didn't even question about dog, just said keep it on a lead and don't walk it in the NP. Most
places want a deposit and give you a list of do's & don'ts. Thanks to all who replied. BTW the bomber in Kroobit tops is on the to do list.
Cheers Drew
