Are these a good vehicle? I know they're very capable and built tough but have a couple of concerns.

I've heard the later diesel GQ's used weaker pistons and lighter heads that don't necessarioly hold up under a turbo (which I'd be putting on). Is there any foundation to this or just a good old mate of a mate type rumour?

Also just how bad are they without a turbo? Are they still liveable. The only other diesel I've really driven for any length of time was a 2000 dual cab 3 litre non turbo for work... how would it compare?

Any other advice is appreciated too. Cheers

the later ones did have different pistons, but they work fine with snails.

Go drive one yourself is the easiest way to find out.

Best ute there is, much prefer my GQ to my brother in laws GU. My old man has a turbo one goes much better than my non turbo but mine is still liveable
