Thinking of retiring the old MQ and up dating to a Cherokee (early 90,s). Bit worried if it would be strong enough to handle roads in FNQ or are they just a bitumen burner.Any info would be of help

We had a 1994 XJ Jeep - we only traded it in because we needed the money to update one of my wife's driving school vehicles - otherwise we would still have it now. Anyway they are vehicle capable as 4WD vehicles. I don't know how tough FNQ roads are but I certainly tested our out in SW WA - steep gravel tracks near Wellington Dam, Fitzgerald River NP, Pemberton - Northcliffe tracks, Forestry areas around Shannon Frankland Rivers, Sharks Bay including north of Denham up to Cape Peron.

Would we get another Jeep now? We have - just 2 weeks ago.

There were some issues with some of the early 90's petrol jeeps relating to overheating. The problem was fixed, they put more water ports around the cylinders etc. Im not sure what years it was, but I am sure it was early 90's.

We have several jeeps in our club, and they go well!! I even contemplated one, but at 6ft2, there is bugger all leg room and my head hit the roof. Also with a groing family, wouldnt be enough room for all our gear, kid, fur kids and the engel.

Very capable vehicle otherwise.
