Hi There,
Crazy as it sounds, we're already planning our next trip - for the September school holidays! We've decided to head to Fraser Island - and wondered where the best camper-trailer based
camping would be. Want to bring the tinnie (on top of the
Kimberley Kamper). Any favourite/best spots ? Any other advice?

Doesnt sound too silly- I always plan 6-12 mths in advance.
I took my camper trailer last year and stayed at Cathedral Beach- found it to be central approx half way up the island, good
camping ground and the ammenities were ammaculate.

Any of the
camp grounds are OK for a CT. When you book on line make sure you indicate you are NOT in a tent. There are specific
camp sites set aside for CT / Caravans (not that you get many caravans out there). You can also
camp along
the beach in designated areas but without amenities.
We love the
Central Station camp ground, but it is inland and not near the Eastern Beach. Dundaburra is good and the new amenities should be open by now. Probably the only one to avoid for first visit is
Waddy Point, till you check out getting around
Indian Head with the CT. It is not a big deal, but many get stuck there on first attemp when towing.
Not so sure about the tinnie though. A roof topper would be much too small for launching off the Eastern Beach IMO.
I'm combining a trip to Fraser with some dam fishing for Barra starting next week. Will be leaving the boat with some friends on the mainland when we go to Fraser for the 'clean up week-end' as I wouldn't dare use it on Fraser. Only exception might be on the Western side where it is a bit more sheltered.

Thanks Norm. We've been to Fraser before - but it was 15 years ago, pre-kids and pre-camper trailer. Good advice on the tinnie - I think I'll stick to the surf fishing gear.Cheers

You should be able to get some Whiting off the beaches. Collect Pipies or beach worms (pipies are much easier) for bait and you should have some fun in the shallows.

as others have said, there are plenty of locations for cam,per based
camping.
I too like
Central Station, but I also have a couple of favourite spots out on
the beach (from the days before kids, just too many risk factors, including people driving over dunes and into your
campsite, on
the beach nowadays for me)
As for the tinnie, you wouldn't want to use it on the east coast, plenty of opportunity along the west coast however.
cheers

Can only agree with all that above. Tinnie on beach side is a no no, but ok on inside. we always beach camped within 10k or so of the little centres so not
far to get the bread or whatever.Beach
camping is great if you are independant,
pick a spot close to a
creek running across sand & your
water supply isunlimited.
We generally avoided holiday periods & always had a huge choice of campsites.
If you cant get there before the rush your choice may be limited, but can always book in at the campgrounds. Enjoy...oldbaz.
