Hat Head

They have pretty mild winter around there and is a great time to visit. I used to camp a bit there in the late 70's , their was a great little camping area near the boat ramp and from memory it was free but I supose this has all changed. My main interest was deep sea fishing and it's sure great for this. The continental shelf comes in very close to Hat Head hence the water is very deep and strong currents, and watch the container ships as they wont watch you. Have fished in competions at Cresent Head but only a novice there, hope you have a good holiday and catch plenty of mackeral which might still be around in June .

I live nearby. I think this place is probably the last unspoilt place on the mid-north coast. There is a caravan park, sorry but it's managed, which means you must pay. You are close to the beach and there is a lagoon if you desire a cooling winter swim. Usual facilities exist & there is a club.

Steve, Overlander produce an occassional magazine called Overlander Destinations. I spotted one in the news agency last week (so it must be a current edition) that had a short but detailed piece on Hat Head and surrounds. It might be worth grabbing a copy.Be good, or be quick.
