Wife and I did the 6 day Cradle Mountain/Lake St Clare trek about 5 years ago.

Suggest you have a look at the small spiral bound book "4WD tracks in Tasmania" also known as "Off-road Tasmania" by Chris Boden ISBN 0-9579402-0-3 published by Roving Land and Recreation Services (see roving@southcom.com.au).
I found this booklet most useful - I have no connection with author or publisher. Have 2001 edition and updates / corrections are available from the aforementioned website. there is probably a more up-to-date edition around.
The booklet is available from "all good bookstores", possibly also this site Exploroz, haven't checked (sorry). Can't remember the cost, think it is about $20 to $25. Is well worth it.
