Rock Crawler
ok ok , not 4x4 related BUT , I know there are heaps of star gazes on this site.
Was looking at the night sky in Noosa , when i saw a shooting star.
Well at the begining I though it was , thn it did a zig zag , before doing a u turn and vanishing .
Ok, no I want drinking ,
Yes there was another witness.
My question is , can a shooting star do this ?
if no , what the hell can ?
brightness of a star , to fast to have been a plane and way to high.
Got me stuffed

A friend is into this stuff and so I get a regular stream of reports on sightings.
Ignoring all the sus stuff there is a huge collection of credible witnesses to these sightings. Air traffic controllers, Iranian and Canadian (and other) air force pilots scrambled to approach and then there is astronauts comments.
One newspaper report had a photo from one of our outersatellites (140,00km out from memory) showing a passing craft (not light) approaching earth.
Whilst we may never really believe it till we see it ourselves you have to say it is actually arrogant to consider we are the only beings created in the universe.
We also go visiting other planets and moons comets etc.and have spun craft off beyond our own solar system.
If they are visiting us -we can be grateful it is scientific exploration on not yet conquest. Something Humans seem to be particularily good at .
Seems the best thing to do if there is a sighting is pass it on to share via the media. (as
rock cawler did) The worst thing is to initially hand any evidence (photos etc) it over to the authorities, They already have all the "weather balloons " they need. LOL

Hi RC - here is one possibility :
Comet McNaught (2006/P1) - 'On Jan 15, the
comet is closest to the earth at a distance of 0.82AU but it is still only 7 degrees away from the Sun. After sunset however, observers should attempt to view the comets gas (ion) tail as it appears perpendicular to the horizon and, if sufficiently long enough, may be glimpsed from a dark sky site through binoculars!'
To find it, look at the western horizon, just on sunset. It will be about 2 thumbs width up, and to the left of where the sun set.
Being close to the horizon, we are viewing it through the greatest depth of atmosphere - which could create appearance of erratic movement.
but then again...'Not only is the universe stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine' (Sir Arthur Eddington - Astronomer and Theoretical Physicist).

hi rock crawler, I had a similar thing happen. Let me tell you my tale of intrigue.
Was walking from the car to the house with 3 other people. Someone noticed a light buzzing around. I had a look and brushed it off but then took a thought to what it was. A fast light a long way away at a 70 degree angle. Was moving as massive speeds eg I know a tad about physics, jets, speed veliocity, angular acceleration etc and this was not a jet. We dont build things which can do what this light did and if we do, then it was not piloted because in 1 turn of direction the pilot would have died. So anyway I dont have an agenda with this sighting, I dont know what it was. One other thing, my experiance was not a fleeting thing, 4 people clearly saw it for 5 minutes, I went inside, got my telescope and focused on the light. Eventually it dissapeared in a fast long straight line outta here. I know some people dont believe me, and to be honest I wouldnt either, thats cool, BUT its not cool if there really are ufoie things, cause we probably all should know about it.
