Bit like the tire battle, but does anyone have experience with AC Delco brand? The one in the Patrol has just ticked over 5 yrs of country use, which I thought was not bad. Probably die to morrow, so am starting to look for a supplier.

Just wondered what the assorted wisdom was.

Hi Mike,
AC Delco is, as you would know, a subsidiary of the GM Corp. The brand is huge in the USA but struggles a bit in Oz. The quality and pricing is good. The batteries which used to be made in USA are now contracted and made under licence in Korea. They are available from your local Holden dealer.

Mike,

My AC DElco was seven plus years and still going well when I sold it off with the old car.
It was purchased to for use in my boat. It was used to power a sounder, radio and bilge pump even though it was an SL battery and not deep cycle. (The motor was pull start).

When I sold of the boat the Delco was transferred to the my wife's Batmobile where it continued to crank over whenever required.

I would not hesitate to go AC again. I know from experience I can buy cheaper but I also know from experience that they won't have anything near the life.

Change if you must but you may well get another couple of years out of that battery.

The first question is what you want to use the battery for. I assume that given you have used it for 5 year it is a starting battery. If that is the case then almost the case that anything beyond the OE specification will work. Simply as you are going to only use it to start the car.

BUT if you are looking for a second battery then this starts a completely different discussion that commences with how many things are you going to run off it, what is their current draw etc etc. Bugger to ask but starting and second batteries have very different roles and so quite different specifications. I am sure there will be many responses that will discuss putting the starting and second battery together and this is an option however it does require both batteries to be the same in specification et al otherwise you will experience what is called a deficit charge situation where one battery becomes dominant and takes charge from the other. Complex discusison yes certainly but we go back to the primary question which is what do you want to use the battery for. Their are plenty of post on this site on this one for sure
