dangerous damian
Hi all
Have recently bought a troop carrier converted into a camper with an old electrolux fridge in the back. I understand that when running of gas the fridge needs to be level but how does i manage to keep the fridge cool whilst driving. Is it possible to wire a 12v connection or wiring system to run it of the car battery whilst driving. I'm sure you are all sick of talking about fridges but and help would be great.
Cheers
damo

most electrolux fridges can also run off 12 volt (is it an upright of a chest fridge??) they are incredibly inefficient on 12 volt and it really shouldn't be considered as anything more than a way to get from location A to B then back on Gas

just leave it running on gas. If you realy want to run it on 12v it should alrady be connected but if not the cables shouldbe there at the back of the fridge.
A camper I had had the fridge running off a relay that was triggered by the supply power to the coil so you couldnt park up and accidently leave it running on 12v

Never ever leave the frig running on gas while mobile, plenty of vans have gone up due to gas leaks whilst travelling with a lit frig. 12v is the only option whilst mobile.
Also make sure there is adequate ventilation for the frig when running on gas ie don't have vehicle closed up entirely.
Is it a proper installation with gas vents in the floor (to stop gas accumulating inside the vehicle waiting to go bang) and is the flue from the frig vented to the outside and sealed off from the interior or has it just been plonked into the vehicle.
If the latter then it is possibly an accident waiting to happen either by carbon monoxide poisoning or gas explosion.
The gas cylinder itself is also supposed to be in its own compartment sealed off from the interior of the vehicle and vented to the outside world.

I really dont believe the danger is any greater with a moving vehicle than a stationary one for gas leaks - in fact the oppasite. A moving vehicle has air flow to disperse gas and a stationary one has a far greater risk of igniting leaking gas with ignition sources such as using stoves etc.
Still you need to be vigilant of gas leaks which is usually picked up by smell but also watch for your gas bottle attracting flys
