Hi all,
Today I greased up the uni's and front and rear shafts and would like to know if there are any other nipples to grease?
It is a bit of a tight squeeze under the Nissan :)
In my old Jeep there were several more
places needing to be greased.
Also my front shaft has about 1/4 of a revolution free play?
Is this normal?
Thanks in advance Chris.

Yep, at least the GQ had small bolts in the steering knuckle joints which (when I owned it) I promptly removed and screwed-in nipples. The GU doesn't even have the little bolts and the steering joints are non-serviceable.
The front tail shaft is supposed to have that free-play (unless you've manually locked the auto hubs, in which case the shaft won't budge.....or shouldn't!!!).
I've replaced the auto hubs with part-time, manual locking jobs. When these are in the "FREE" position the front shaft can be freeely rotated as much as ya like.

Hi Truckster,
thanks for your comments.
Just wondering if you could let me know the lubricants that you use for your td42 engine, gear box, diffs and transfer case.
I would like to do my own changes rather than pay for everything to be done.
Cheers
Chris.

I know
mine ain't a Nissan but the cruizer only has nipples on the shafts also. We are in the era of throw away items. I remember on my parents old Holden you could grease just about everything....not anymore.

These days, all the joints and knuckles are sealed and greased for life.
When the item is stuffed, that's the end of its life! - lol!

Gday
I remember back in the old days ,when we had to grease Leyland's and "Atkinsons" there were grease nipples on anything that moved. If it didn't move , then it was ceased and had to be repaired. Spring shackles on twin steer and tandem drive with three part tail shafts and slides. All the pedals and controls under the old trucks, even the speedo cable had a nipple, along with door hinges and hand brake controls...Those were the days, So Chris , i think that you have it easy just having to do the uni joints and slides.
Have a nice day.

Hi there,
Thanks for all of your imformative responses.
Looks like i greased all that I can.
Just one last question for Truckster and Roachie,
What lubricants do you guys use for your td42 engine, Diffs (front and rear), gear box and transfer case?
Thanks once again,
(I'm trying to save a few dollars by doing what I can rather than pay to have everything done for me by mechanics)
Cheers
Chris.

Chris, I have now responded to your member message.....but for the benefit of anybody else looking in, I can best suggest that my story about my AMSOIL dual bypass filtration system and 100% synthetic oil might be worth searching on this site. Lots of info available.
It costs a bit to set up initially, but the benefit of only having to change your oil every 50,000klm or so has to be taken into account.
