Hi all, I bit the bullet today and had an Airtech
snorkel fitted to the Patrol. The saleman from TJM
Hobart seemed quite knowledgable and suggested I buy and fit an oiled Finer Filter sock down the throat of the
snorkel for ouitback travel.
My questions are; Is it worth leaving this sock in for bitumen running, is it worth puttiing the sock in for dirt road running, and what have other peoples experiences been with these socks?
Thanks in advance,
Peter

Socks are great for catching dust,,, but it is amazing how quickly it clogs up...
I would run the sock on roads like the PDR and GRR,,,and the one to
Weipa,,, anything that is a bulldust bowl...

Probably better off with a donaldson pre-cleaner bowl on top of the
snorkel

The general advice from this
forum is not to run an oiled filter on the ZD30 engine as it can coat the Air flow mass sensor and possibly result in having the change the sensor.

but if he's still using the factory paper filter it won't get to the MAF sensor.

Totally agree Misfit, as long as he doesn't fit an oil based main filter, A little birdie told me your user Nick, represents the fact you have a Nissan 3ltr and a Waeco Fridge. LOL

Yep. I have had one for a few years. Gotta remember to clean them often cos they block up real quick. It's amazing to see how much crap goes into the
snorkel....bees, bugs, moths, sticks, twigs, berries, seeds, locusts..... the sock traps it all.

Have gone to change the air filter and found the bee hive in there , had been looking for this kind of sock but now have the one that goes over the
snorkel head.

Another good hint is to turn the inlet on the top around when offroad.
