I took a cruise today, from
Perth, right across the wheatbelt to see Mt Churchman and back. I spent most of the day driving.
Mt Churchman was visted by
Gregory,
Forrest and Giles so I thought I'd pay a visit.
Left
Scarborough at 6:50am.
Toodyay by 8:45am then Goomaling at 9:20.
Dowerin at 9:37 and Korda at 10:30.
Bimbijy Rd at 11:18 and left the blacktop at 11:34am 352k's from
Perth.
Pass the
Vermin Proof Fence and into the Great Australian Playfield at 11:43am 365k's out.
I missed the turnoff to Mt. Churchman, it was hard to find, went to far by 8 k's. (16k's wasted).
There is a track to
the summit and I parked the ute there at 12:12pm 405k's out.
The place is basically a
granite outcrop which is
well hidden, as most of the surrounding countryside is at a higher level.
I only stayed 15 minutes then headed back
home going through Burakin, Cadoux,
Dowerin then the same way I came.
Athough I came pretty close to
Lake Moore I didn't sight it.
Got back to
Scarborough BP at 4:56pm and put 112.64 litres back in.
So 773km all up using 112.64 litres.
It was good to get out for a while even though it was for only a short time.

Sounds like my sort of drive. Although not being on that side of
the beach, Mt Churchman is a familiar name to me for the reasons you mentioned. A great pity it sounds like a bit of a let down. Do you have any pix of it ?

Hi Footy,
No, no pictures I'm sorry - I pretty
well just jumped in the ute with my maps and took off.
Google Earth Co-ords are:
29°55'52.14"S
117°54'27.26"E
You can see the outline of the outcrop.
The area would make for a good long weekender sometime.
Cheers

Seems to be in the middle of a decent
salt lake?

Yeah, nestled in the arms of
Lake Moore (A.
Gregory 1846)
Also, after a bit more research this morning found that Robert Austin was in the area in 1854.
Crossroads of 4
explorers,
Gregory 1846, Austin 1854,
Forrest 1869 and Giles 1875. Love it!!

Havnt heard of it but it sounds interesting. Too many think if it aint a majour tourist destination it aint worth seeing (then complain about the crowds) also leads to pretty repetative tripreports

Hi
That's pretty poor mileage isn't it?
773km 112.64l that's 6.86l/km or 19.39m/g or 14.57l/100 km
I get and avg 7.41l/km 20.94m/g 13.60l/100
you must of been moving avg of 96.62 km/hr with stopping time... LOL ;-)
might have to take that way
home from BK sometime
