Hi Mike Tan,
I am monitoroing for advice and so picked up your reply/concern.
Allow me to tell a TRUE story.
Prior to my retirement from teaching I taught in a Liverpool/west
Sydney school.. great school. On a particular day a member of staff "had" to go into the city for a gev school approved course. It was convenient for him to drive past the school gates for about another 3 minutes to park at the transit rail station and be in the city 25 minutes later.
After the return trip he found his $14,000 agreed valued car was gone (legitimately stolen). The PROBLM was that he was using his bothers address in Qland to register and insure his vehicle from. BET YOU KNOW OF PEOPLE THAT DO THIS type of thing !!!
On day of theft he reported it to to NSW local police and got an incident #. and was advised to leave it for a few hours in case it was recovered from "joy riders"
No good news so...Next day he reported it to his insurer NRM..
I heard half of the conversation (the rest was filled in later) before the chair kicking began.
"We note that you vehicle was stoeln from Sydeny met but it was insured in Q. Can you explain why the vehicle was in *.*
Sydney Nsw.
Yes I was down here on business.
Thats fine ... but we will not do a telephone claim loss registration - rather we will send you a snail mail claim forthe loss with this ID number. Please complete it and ATTACH a telehone bill in your name from that address or an electricity bill in your name from that address.
My collegue came clean and told the NR... person that he had been registering the vehicle at his brothers address and doing the same for insurance.
The NR... lady told him "good Morning" we will note be acting on your claim "because you have made fraudulent claims of regitration address in order to gain an advantage ( of premium) and told the collegue that they would include a form advising of his rights at appeal if he so sought fit."
Then the chair kicking began and the loss of a $14,000 vehicle was borne by my coolegue/friend.
BEWARE... the big insuruers know that the non host state registration goes on and that they will take you money until the crunch comes.... then ... as above.
Thats why I say LEGAL. I have got to a stage of my life ( I know) when wealth allows me to aviod the traps...... I was simply seeking "nuts and bolts 'WITHIN LEGAL" ADVICE"".
