A RESCUE operation has recovered at least half of 20 four-wheel drive vehicles submerged by a king tide at Salt
Creek in the state's south-east.
Kingston police, with the help of emergency
services and the
Adelaide Bank rescue helicopter, are working to recover the vehicles.
Competitors in a fishing competition were
camping overnight on
the beach between 28 Mile Crossing and Tea Tree Crossing.
Some are stranded in
sand dunes at the back of
the beach while others are safe in
Kingston.
"Some of the vehicles were brand new and some were old beach buses," the spokesman said.
"They have been submerged fully in
water and sand for some time so it would be fair to say there will be some economic losses from this."
There have been no reports of injuries or missing people.
People who have left the area are asked to contact the
Mount Gambier police on 8735 1020

How many 4wd's?????
Posted 3 pics here and 2 are not any 4by I have ever seen???
Or is it simply a case of its on a beach so it must be a 4wd???
And what about the bullbars??? Can't seem to see any of those deadly bullbars that are notorious with 4wd's????
Our media are so cleaver about these things!!!

Wonder if that would be am insurance issue with the sedans eg falcon, coomodore as these I wwould imagine would not be covered to be driven on sand/ beach or would that not be a problem. Might also class it as act of god ?? mmmm I wonder if the insurance companys will try and get out of this one. Regards Steve M

Act of god or act of stupidity,
I thought keen fishers checked the tides and weather forecasts????

I was in SA last week, the beaches are better than the highways but you are allowed to do 110 but not on
the beach.....

I was under the impression from what I heard most of the vehicles where parked not on
the beach and in a supposed safe location, however the king tide was much bigger than expected and took a bank out and in goes the vehicles. As for the 4x4 one bloke said the
water just rushed in and he had no chance to get off
the beach he just ran to safety?. Not knowing the place don't know how qick the tides are.
Mind you be good to know the real story. Either way it sucks to own one of the vehicles.
Brian
