Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone could help me with trying to fix the electric aerial on a 91 Toyota 4runner. Apparently the books don't cover it. The aerial will not go up and down byitself anymore. If you push on it, it will go down. So the electrics are still working. I can't figure out how to get to it as it is behind the front quarter panel. Any help please?

I am not sure whether this helps, but I had a similar 4runner problem and was advised that the cost of fixing just wasn't worth it. They also got bent by hoons and bushes around Alice too often. Given the replacement costs, it was better to fit a new manual aerial. Stuck one on the bullbar. Easy to access. Saved heaps. In the meantime, try some lubricant (spray silicone is good) on the aerial. They clog up real easy and the motors can't move them.

For memory they ar behind the passengers side guard which means you would be better to pull wheel off (dont forget to use stands Dont rely on jack alone) and pull inner plastic guard off and there is a bracket that will need to be removed to access the arial. I take it the internal mask (plastic) is buggered and will need replacing. Genuine toyota or do as mentioned above and get a manual one to go in exact spot and will be stroger but still need to be careful on the bushe etc but at least you can still listen to cd/cassette with out having to put the arial up. You can get one from toyota from the base model 4 runner which is a manual one but will fit in the hole perfectly, if you go non genuine then it wont fit exactly and will have to be mounted to bull bar as said above. You will need to also take off internal kick panel to access the arial lead which for memory dissconect just behind this panel save pulling dash apart just to unplug arial. Smart thinking by toyota. Hope this helps. Regards Steve M
