Dear All

On a recent trip, I had two AC problems occur almost simultaneously.

1. Perhaps half a cup of water dripped from the condensor (passenger side foot-well) - mainly into my better half's handbag and shoes! This has happened once before - several months ago, but in the interim - no problem.

2. Soon afterwards the unit stopped cooling. No probs with fans - just pushing warm air! The next day it was working fine again.

According the guts book, the most likely cause of the first issue is a blocked drain tube. [No blockage visible - vent on firewall in engine bay is quite clean; however I haven't probed beyond the first 75mm of tubing]

I'm assuming that the second issue was the result of the condensor freezing up. Not sure why.

On the description I provided, the AC techician I spoke to seemed to think the issues were unrelated.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced these issues and if so, what the remedies were.

Regards

Hi there Spliney, I think you are wright as in the evap freezing up, is it genuine toyota air (nippondenso) will be taged on pump ?? Doesnt take much to block them up, only need to get 1 fine leaf in there and will cause the probs. Myn blocks up probably half a dozen times in the summer months, I know its a leaf but am not going to pull the evap out as 9 times out of 10 when you try and undo the connection in the engine bay (fire wall) being aluminium they stuff the threads and up for new condensor have seen this happen many a time so I just keep a 30cm cable tie in the console and when she blocks up pull the rubber drain hose off stick it up the plastic hole with the floor mat under it and catch the water no major problems except the other halfs foot getting wet. If genuine toyota air then there is a problem with the control unit which by the way cant be played with all electronic, but if non genuine air then the thermostat can be turned up. Another good way to see if its freezing up is, on a hot day flick the fresh recycle over to fresh and suck some hot air through but also turn air button off for ten minutes then turn on again if comes through cold again then it is freezing up. I have non geniune in myn and will freeze on me after about 2 hours of continuous operation no probs around town as I'm stopping and starting. Hope this helps you out a bit. Regards Steve M

I posted this to similar question a while ago, mine is gxl model but Im sure it will bw the same, not a problem with mine since fixing it bout 12months ago.

Mate I had same problem with my 100 SERIES, checked all obvious as stated, hose blocked etc, but still found WATER under glove box. If you remove the glove box you will see a rectangle lookin plate which the WATER drips off to the lower right side of glove box space. If you carefully remove 2 or 3 screws (cant remember how many) on this plate you will find a thin seal made of foam in behind . I suppose you could get new seal FROM toyota but i just cut an new one out of some foam rubber that i had in the shed. Not a drop of WATER inside since. the problem is the seal is made of foam so when soaked in WATER it acts like a wick. if you look carefully for where WATER drips FROM you will see plate i am talking about. Hope this helps Richy.

another cause for freezing up is the TX valve to replace it the system needs to be evacuated and refilled if u do this make sure u replace the receiver dryer as well. col
