The bride and I intend doing a half-way trip around the block between mid-April and mid-June (ex Perth). I felt the Kimberley first, to get the end of the wet, and then Darwin and down. She feels Flinders Ranges first, as it should be very green by end April and not as cold as June.
I would appreciate other's thoughts.

Go north . Not as many campers as June ,July and gorge's will still be running quite good . Just make sure the roads are open . There is a pic of Mitchell falls in April in my pic's . You will have to cross King River to get there through, pic also in my pic's . Cheers Errol

with you. i did the top end from late April 03 (weak wet season) and I was a touch early as some things were stil closed (bell gorge, Jim Jim Falls nt) but Mitchel falls was not long open.
I avoided all the common compaints about the top end such as corragations and overcrowded campsites (obviosly there was still a few people round) .
There was about 700mm at King Edward

We did 10 weeks May to August last year up across and down. Weather going up was fantastic but we had a head wind most of the way. When we hit Kununnura at the end of June we were hearing that it was minus 7 overnight in Alice. When you're tenting it, that sort of info you don't want to hear but glad you did.
Remember it's nice and warm in the North but gets bloody cold as you head back South. Also if you're going to do the GRR it was very chilly overnight also.
Book ahead for Karatha, Broome and Kununnura, also possibly Katherine. Other areas you should be ok.

If it was me I would be doing the Flinders first, but as per previous post, at that time of the year you may need to book your spots in the north of WA unless of course you are doing the free camping thing!

Cheers

Option one
Do what the boss suggests as it is not a suggestion it just sounds like one.

Option Two
Don't decide till about a week before and decide depending on conditions in the north. Last year you would have needed a boat in mid April to go anywhere in the Kimberley. If option two and one coincide all the better.
