Hi All,
Planning to go with friends to Beachport and Robe this weekend, along with a million others it seems. Is there anywhere that you can wash the underside of your car after beach driving over there? Water restrictions may make this a problem.

agree - Some of the CarLovers also have an under body spray - once the spray has started, just go forward and reverse over the full length of the car a couple of times - but don't go over the bump that is the sensor for the underbody wash to stop.... - gets just that little bit more out of the carwash, and under where it's needed

Twinkles,

We are probably on the beach every couple of weeks and when it comes to washing down afterwards I have found that a lower pressure wash is better than jetting water in at higher pressures as that just seems to force sand into places you really don't want it to get to.

It is a real bugger since we went onto level four water restrictions in Brisbane as you can't use your hose for this. Our local dam average capacity is down to around 22% at present and level five is just around the corner if we don't get some decent rain in the catchment area soon. I like a lot of others here have installed a tank and pump so I can still keep my car clean.

I run a lot of water through the chassis rails via the drainage holes in them as well as giving a good wash to all other underbody components and the enginer bay. I follow this up with a good wash on the paintwork and once she is all dry I go for an underbody and underbonnet spray of lanotec or something similar.

I also have installed an electronic rust prevention system and to date have not gotten any rust.

That seems to work for me but having access to water is one of the big issues facing people at present.

Have a good one.

i find the staun Massojet a handy tool for this kind of think, pumped from the 12volt water pump in my car (from the shower unit) and my 120litre tank and hooked up to the compressor to force the water out a little, but not as much as a high pressure washer works wonders.

you can even do it as soon as you get off the beach if you have a hose etc with you ;)

In SA Level 3 water restrictions apply only to deignated zones thorughout the State. There are no Level 3 restrictions at Robe/Beachport HOWEVER there are Permanent Water Conservation Measures.

SA Water Conservation Measures in detail

CLEANING OF MOTOR VEHICLES, BOATS:

Water must not be used to clean a motor vehicle or boat unless the water is applied:

From a bucket or watering can filled directly from a tap; or
By a high-pressure low volume water cleaner; or
From a hand-held hose that is fitted with a trigger nozzle
Motor vehicles or boats can be cleaned at a commercial car wash or by means of an automatic washing system that recycles water.
Boat motors may be flushed or rinsed after use.

Hope this info clears up your concerns.

DIO......you were looking ar restriction levels prior to current level 3

Level three when applied to cars is
"WASHING CARS AND BOATS

Water must not be used to wash a vehicle except by means of a commercial car wash or a bucket filled directly from a tap.
Hoses are not to be used.
Boat owners are permitted to flush out motors and rinse off metal parts to prevent ."

Note: Hoses are not to be used.

if read the first line of the page you directed us too.....

"This information relates to permanent water conservation measures which apply to all customers NOT covered by level 3 or Eyre Peninsula restrictions."

it then makes sense

There are no car wash joints in Robe. Nearest is probably Kingston.

There is a boat wash facility at the harbour, but someone's bound to get annoyed if teams of 4wds turn up to wash the car. Could be quite a lineup too!

I get one of those very basic, round metal sprinklers and park over it for five minutes.

Twinkles, this might not be real relevant for our current climate but when I lived in Qld years ago I would give it a quick hose when I got home but as soon as it started raining (usually within a week) I would jump straight in the cruiser and head along the highway (only 2 ks from home) and do 30 odd km's at 110km/hr in the rain. This will give the best wash of under the vehicle you can get. The water will go into every crevice that the salt water did while driving on the beach.

Beachport Caravan park has a wash station just inside the front gates, but you need a card to get in - or you could try offering $10 for a wash???? It isn't trigger nozzle operated, but you turn it on and off by bending the nozzle Worth a try.

Level 3 measures don't apply to the S/East, they have more rainfall generally and their water supply isn't from the Murray.
