Yes I have had a " Ride Pro " system put under the Navara, and, even with the heavy package and my poly air bags fitted, it runs rings around the original Nissan stuff.

Sits up about 2" higher all round too .

Well done to the crew at South Gippsland Cars and Off Road, in Leongatha, all is well .

Cheers Bucky

Great stuff Bucky, have just started thinking about trying to do something with my Nav's suspension.

Gotta agree with you re that the original gear aint that great eh. Can I be so rude as to ask a ball park figure for the new susp set up.

Sorry Geoff
Been busy as, the last few days..

Love to give you a price, ball park only, as the account has not came in,
$1300-1400, there was no heavy duty torsion bars,( originals kept ) and the Pedders Foam-cell rear shochers, that I put on last year were kept..

All in all, Its as good as I expected, and that jarring has gone, now all we have to do is get our Governments to fix the roads. You expect a bounce when off road, but not on the black stuff..

Hi Bucky

Glad your a happy customer but wondering what "runs rings around original Nissan stuff" means for you.

If the car has been rasied 2 inches that means it would fall over more easily
on a tilt table test.

Adding heavier springs usually means it will not sway as much and have more precise handling however it also means that if you run the car up a ramp it will have less articulation and hence less 4wd capability.

All I have to do these days is get there. With the Navara, I had an early fright, as it ain't got the handling, or cornering of a Commodore. So precise corner approaching is an essential.
The Navara has sweet F.A. wheel travel, or ofr that cannot carry 1 tonne, as stated, Japanese 1 tonne seems 1/2 of that safely.
The heavier springs, means that there are 4 leafs, at normal work, and 3 heavy duty leafs that come in after a pre-determined weight is reached.
As for my driving, I have just been for a drive around some windy bitumen roads, and I have given it buggery, its great.

I dunno whether it is a Navara thing but I find the standard suspension on my Nav fairly mismatched and quite ordinary.

My experience at least is that the front end seems way too soft and wallows (with or without load in rear) and am forever topping and bottoming out. Existing shocks and torsion bars are in serviceable condition according to Nissan.

Not answering for Bucky mind, just my two bobs on the Nav suspension.

Snow

My Mrs has the same problem.
At one stage I had to put 300 kgs of sand in the back ( in two , 1/2 filled spud bags ) this helped the ride enormously, but didn't help the suspension last..
Original suspension is crap,,,

Nissan make gr8 vehicles and we should get factory suspension packages, when we order them,,, not just crap ones,,

Also you may find that tyre choice, and air pressures play a big part, in the ride

I have Cooper ATR's, and have done 70,000 kms,, and it looks like I will get that many kms again,,Gr8 in the desert ,, twice up there, never a flat

I run 31 psi up front and 28 psi in the back, and even that low,, it seems to ride like a truck at times

I hear from all the tyre-fitters, that Cooper's go hard after a while,,, Well mine are real hard, but they are wearing well, so I'm not winging too much

Cheers

I'm not surprised really Nowin1.

What is the go with those torsion bars?

I raised the issue of a sagging front end with local N dealer. I was informed in no uncertain terms that torsion bars required adjustment every 20 thou km. Adding that this was largely due to the heavy steel roo bar on the front.

My response was that "they" (that N delaer) had installed the roo bar before it left the yard when new...so if the vehicle's suspension wasn't up to the task of carrying a steel bar, why in fact did they install the bar without upgrading the suspension.

I didn't achieve anything of course.

Not towed with it yet !

But the back is up in the air now,, I will probably have to flip the towbar back to the original position.
If you can remember that I had to flip the towbar, so it stepped up ( not down ) as the front of the drawbar on the Trak Shak was too low ,,

Go the Canning !!!
LOL

Thanks Bucky, very interesting mate. I recently fitted Bridgestone ATRs the 394 series I think. Yep I run 32 up fron and 30 in rear but yeah a couple bags of sand/cement in the back certainly improve the ride, like most utes to some extent I guess.

The ATRs are good on the road, ok in sand and have been fair on unsealed stuff but I have done probably 15-20 thou on them and think a total of 60 thou will pull them up so is interesting to hear of the Coopers as I had considered them as well.

Do you do your own servicing Bucky?

Servicing ?
No I do not... mainly because I brought the Navara new, and i want to keep the warranty going..
Got the usual 3 years, but as I was signed up, on the opening day of a updated garage, it was BIG for Nissan in the town, so I got an extra 2 years warranty..

The other thing is that another set of eyes on the vehicle, ( and more experienced ones at that ) can only help the overall performance of the Navara..

Nissan services range from $250-700 depending on whats in the book,, I get mine for an average of $100 and I supply the oils and filters,, Can't go wrong

Cheers

No worriesmate, actually sounds likeyou have got a good deal going there. I do my own servicing and the local N dealer is bloody hopeless that I wouldn't trust them with my son's scooter. Only reason I asked is I found a good palce to buy genuine filters online which save me having to deal with the useless 'pratts'.

All the best mate.
