G'day All

After a weekend of playing in the mud, I have a tinny scraping noise coming from the driver side rear wheel area, that is more noticeable when I go around left hand corners. I took the wheel off and washed the area out thoroughly , but each time I try to turn it I get the scraping noise and it is particularly difficult to turn in one spot and I can not see anything scraping on the brake disc. Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Snowy

Is there something jammed between the backing plate and the disc or the backing plate bent?

Had the same thing happen where a stone lodged between the disc guard & the disc.

NRMA said that the wheel hub etc would have to be removed to get it out.

Found a wedge shaped piece of wood and force the guard away from the disc and out came the stone.

Upon further investigation there is also a rumbling to go with it, so I suspect a wheel-bearing on the way out, thanks for the input though guys.

Just had to replace one of mine on my GU. The inner seal had leaked, which diluted the grease in the bearing, which in turn forced grease out of the outer bearing and over the brake. Some evidence of surface scoring, so the bearing was replaced. Too big a job for me, so had a guy do it - Nissan price for bearing was about $290, had a non-Nissan bearing put in (<$150). Maybe could have chased it up cheaper myself, but happy with job.

Ah playing in the mud will do it. I had one of mine changed fortunately just before a trek to the cape a few years ago. Lucky enough to get it under warranty. The bearing that came out was bathing in a pool of brown sluge - a combination of grease and brown muddy water.
