Hi Guys, Going to Fraser Island for June Qld School Holidays, and staying at Frasers at Cathedral Beach. Does the Barge from Urangan still go to Moon Point ?
Or is it better to go from River Heads, we will be towing a off road camper trailer
with a Mitsubishi Challenger. It is our first time to the Island , any advise would be welcome? Regards Ian

Is that closer for you than Inskip Point? We tow our trailer from the Barge at Inskip up to Happy Valley when we go, don't have any problems with that. I guess it would be the same distance or thereabouts across the island or up the island.... some of the inland tracks can get a bit soft is all.....

Cheers

Thanks Brian, We were going to stay at Hervey Bay for a week after Fraser & thought it would be easier that way. Regards Ian.

The track from the beach to cathedral is steep . Real steep . When i was there a 4x4 towing a trailer was bogged . Let your tyre pressuses down . Conditions change all the time though . Cathedral private camp ground has posts around the camp ground . Tents only unless theres some other spot there which has no posts . I would ring to confirm this if i were you . The amenities are great and even though its a base for tour groups its pretty quiet . The shop is handy . Diesel was $1.76 a litr when i went there 2 years ago . I would hate to think what it is now . Drive to gympie and go that way and you get to see the island from the beach and its great . Be very careful with tides especially at hook point and eli creek etc . You dont have to drive at 80klms an hour on the beach and i wouldnt recommend going over 60 klms . Watch out for lots of creek crossings . They can be dangerous with high sand ridges on either side of the creeks . Watch out for D!ck heads , they are everywhere .

This Fraser Island Conditions Report link might prove handy to look up shortly before you go across the water.

good choice of camp will suit your needs have stayed in one of there cabins. travel the extra miles and go via inskip point reason you are on the best side of the island 140ks of good beach driveing, you can then look inland with out your trailer on day trips .its great spot been 4 times just watch the tides and [ANY HIRE TROOPYS WITH BACK BACKERS] a good map [hema fraser island ] have a ball mal b

Been to Frazer every year since 1988 bar one or two years. Every trip except one has been from Inskip. The barge from Hervey Bay unless it has changed since we went over from there many years ago was reverse on and drive off. When the barge is booked to capacity and you are trying to reverse a trailer on it can be somewhat challenging. Barges from Inskip are drive on drive off just a little easier to do. There is a road that goes down from Maryborough past Tin Can Bay that you can use to get you into Rainbow bypassing the main highway and it is good travelling.
