Just replaced the windscreen (large cracks) and thought that would also solve my leak on the passenger side, but no, it still leaks.
After our 30 mm of rain yesterday and early this morning I thought I would have a little look.
It doesn't appear as though the water is comming from around the windscreen.
The under carpet is wet on the inside of the panel next to the passenger door and about half way up the undercarpet next to the fire wall.
I lift the rubber on the corner of the screen and it is dry.
Is there any other way water can get in around that area?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Regards Boo Boo

Hi there Boo Boo (love the name), have you made sure that the drain holes under the plenum chamber are not bloked there fore overflowing into the fresh/ recirculate intake and overflowing in there then with no where to go out over the carpet. I had this happen to me with my old vehicle had a drain either side and were about the same size as two 20mm conduit and blocked up with crap and leaves and things and had no where to go except as mentioned above. This was in my old HZ kingswood wether the troopy has the same sort of thing I'm not sure I know my hilux just has holes drilled through the actual metal but never had an issue. Hope this might help you out. Another way to
test is to use some tape & some plastic around the bottom edge of windscreen under the rubber level and run the hose down into the grille and see if it builds up and comes in. Might be better to pull carpet back and also take the kick panel off to make sure its not entering through there as
well (shouldnt come through there thou). Regards Steve M

Boo Boo, had the same problem years ago and tried everything, drove me nut's. Finally pulled out the glove box & half the dash when it was raining found it was getting in under my radio aerial mount (poor seal due to angle) which is on my passenger fender - the water was tracking in on the cable, in through the fire wall (found grommet not fitted properly) along the cable under the dash and dripping down just short of the radio. If you have any aerials on that side
check it out –even if it Looks OK.
Hope this is of some help
Cheers
Alex

I had the same problem on the 79series.
Like Alex, I traced it to a firewall grommet. But mine was the big one on teh passenger side - I had run an extra cable from the second battery thru there - water dripped down onto the cable and ran inside the vehicle. I adjusted the angle of the cable and some silastic to fully seal the grommet and its fixed.
Cheers

If your Troopy is the earlier model with the bonnet hinges exposed, water can leak down past them and into the cabin - mainly due to rust on/around the mounting point.

Check your grommets. Good way to
check is with a torch. When you see some light stick some blue tact on the grommet in that place and use a watering can (water restrictions) and pour water down
the gap of your bonnet and guard to see if it stops the leak. If so go about sealing it properly.
cheers

Had a similar problem with a 60 series - couldnt solve problem, requested info on
forum - received excellent responses - but no solution. Filled every possible (or so I thought) entry point with silicone, no more gaps etc etc etc. Did the fuel regulator that is behind the drivers side cover - expensive little exercise!!
This was last wet in NT. Did not
check the obvious - the gutters from the roof down past the screen - bluddy metal maggot - sealed bottom of gutter with N.M.G.- voila!! no more water!!
Have a go at it, if it dont work, rots of ruck.

G'day Boo Boo,
I had exactly the same problem Boo, posted on here some while ago (just had a look and can't find the bluddy thing now)
Got lots of good advice and response, as posted above.......but didn't fix it.
Turned out that when the previous owner took off the sunvisor he did not do a very good job of sealing the holes in the front door pillar.
Because of the double skin, water was running along the gutter, down the front pillar and seeping inside.
Had the local crash man do a proper job, now as good as gold.
Ended up I had to sit in the car when it was raining, and search for the leak........
a real PITA......but that wasn't before I had used up heaps of silastic on anything that looked like it could leak on the engine side of the firewall.
Probably doesn't help your cause,,,,,,but you are not alone.
BTW have a bit of a search on here, somewhere there is quite a bit of info.
Cheers
Michael

Michael I tink You may Have it.
My troopy was originally an SES vehicle and there are 4 rubber grommets in the roof where there were lights or something. I'll go and have a look at that and see if thats the problem. It may be running from the roof and down the inside, never know.
Thanks Boo Boo

Boo,
If you are thinking along those lines......
Remove the kick panel on the drivers side, pull the trim (whatever u call it) that runs around the door frame off -just a bit from the floor up to about the dash height.
I sat in the car in really light rain, seemed to penetrate more, and with the aid of a torch found where it was leaking. Mine was a fairly steady drip starting about 30cm up the door frame..........bit hard to describe, need some pictures...lol lol
If you can hide from the water
police, get someone to put a fine spray over the grommets, prob have to wait a while for it to seep in.
Good luck, post how you get on.
Cheers
Michael

FIGJAM
Just found the water leak.
Its a large grommet behind the auxillary battery on the fire wall.
All I have to do is get the battery out and all the wires attached to it.
You litle ripper thanks to all those that offer their thoughts except Axle,,,, nah just kidding. Think I'll have a coffe and think about the approach.
Regards Boo Boo
