Dear ExplorOz
I recently downloaded the plot, map & waypoint files for the
Steep Point trek (Newsletter #121).
While I can print the map, I cannot open the other files and have little or no idea what to do with them.
I have recently acquired a Magellan Explorist XL Traveller Pack with the SD card and am gradually coming to terms with this. The Mapsend software does not recognise the downloaded ExplorOz .wpt file.
Must I laboriously type in the waypoints or do I need additional software to enable a simple upload.

Bonza Byron, if you have OZI Explorer just copy it into your data file. You can then open it that way. Have you got Dis OZ from Magellan?

I have OziExplorer AND a Magellan Explorist 210 GPS and an older Magellan 315 GPS. The file extension " wpt" is the standard format designation for Ozi Waypoint files. So there should be no problem opening these "wpt" files using OziExplorer.
However, whilst I haven't yet used my Magellan 210 with the Mapsend software, I do believe that the "wpt' files that are the standard for Magellan have to be converted by the Mapsend software so that the Magellan GPS can understand it. So the "wpt" files will not go onto the GPS in thier current format. You'll have to convert 'em with Mapsend.
The above may not be 100% accurate, but it's what little I've gleaned from what little I've read on the Mapsend CD.
I still use my older Magellan 315 whiuch doesn't need the conversion and I was bit phisseed off when I saw what had to be done to put waypoints on the Explorist. If I'd have known that I wouldn't have bought the Explorist.

there are also some third party applications to convert wpt files to the magellan format. Google it i am sure you will fine something.
Oziexplorer is the quickest / easiest and for $140 is one of my favourite pieces of software, if only it came for mac ;)
