Does anyone know if the tracks around Mt.Stirling, Mt.Buller, Mt Cobbler etc, are open?
Was planning on going up and having a look around this weekend.

Well got some information from DSE/Parks etc when in
Lakes Entrance on Monday with the pollies.
Basically, they are advising that no one goes up into the fire area for sometime. THE AREA IS STILL UNSAFE. Remember fires ARE still burning & imo opinion anyone who goes up there are stupid as the authorities are going to be very busy trying to assess tracks, do the
clearing of trees etc & dont want the added hindrence of rescueing 4wders stuck out in the bush. The are hoping to have the MAIN access tracks around
Dargo to
Talbotville & Wonnangatta open in the next few weeks, everything being equal & providing fires do not flare up again.
In other words, visit the small towns that are accessible, but dont go venturing onto the 4wd tracks.

BTW, was also told that it is very unlikely that the High Country, as we know it, will not be opened b4 November this year.

The Aberfeldy
Ranger has informed 2 club presidents talking to him that that area will be closed till the usual seasonal November opening.
who would want to
camp amongst ash anyway?

Totally agree Truckster. By all meanss, let's go visit the small country towns, like Dargo/
Licola etc, that have have suffered badly, but just stay away from the tracks. I'm sure alot of us are not aware as to just how much work will be involved to clean up the area, when it is safe to do so that is.
Like Truckser, have been informed that November is the time that hopefully it will all open up again. Also, a number of weather gurus are saying heavy rain is expected late Feb into March, & if this does happen, (dont hold your breath..lol),
I'm sure more trees will come down as the ground becomes wet.
Shame I know, but I'm sure we stay out of the area if it means access down the track, no pun intended.
