Hi All,

Recently went off-road with the dog in the rear of the Patrol on top of the rear draws, with a Milford barrier fitted and an empty fridge slide in place. Was sorry to find that the dog got cut up a bit from the fridge slide when bouncing around in the back – bit of blood but he was ok.

Anyway, decided to get a centre divider to keep the dog on his side and ended up getting one custom made by Colin at CJ4WD in Ferntree Gully. He did an excellent job and I am very happy with the divider. It is easily removed and comes powder-coated. Colin specializes in making systems for dogs as well as 4wd accessories – his business is named “Puppy Bars”.

Just thought I’d post it up in case anyone else was looking for a divider for the back of their wagons. I have no affiliation with Colin - just a happy customer. Cost, around $200 fitted. A couple of pics below.

In addition, if anyone is considering buying rather than making drawers I can recommend the offroadsystems brand – I got the aluminum set and they are excellent.

Yeah I had the same problem so I made my own out of some ply and then just carpeted it to go with the drawers.

My dog travels on the back seat, hangs its head out of the window, barks at passing trucks, grabs foliage as we go bush and slobbers down the side of the GQ. I cover the back seats with plastic and and a rug.

Dog did not particularly like a bouncy section of the WAA Line in the Simspon and voiced its disapproval...lol

Cheers

Can't put mine in the back seat - he's a boxer and we all come out slimed after a trip. Drooling is a bit of an issue when he gets excited.

Just curios - have you ever had any eye issues with the dog hanging its head out? Had a mate who's dog copped a branch across the face - blinded the dog in one eye. He now has a set of doggy glasses for the dog. If it was mine I would have just wound up the window. Doggy glasses - not on my dog!

Hey Willem
Funny you mention the foilage, Dusty does the same , first started in 1997 when he was 1 y/o and I was travelling the Alice to Finke track , had my Daughter with me and when the bushes touched the mirror She would say to look out for the bloooody Trees abd webt ape at then and still does today , Funny though I was coming down a steep hill from a Telstra Tower west of Mt Isa and he grabbed one and near got pulled out the window until he let it go ,

LOL, used to have a dog that grabbed branches as we were driving. In the back of a Troopy with those little sliding windows he latched onto a branch and didn't let go....(he was the size of a german shepherd). Out the window he went. No injuries but we only opened the windows the bare minimum after that

Moggs and Doug

Jeddah has had a cut mouth from grabbing Holly Leaf Grevilla. I do control the biting bushes to a certain extent as if I am travelling through rough country I would wind the window up a tad to stop her from getting too excited...lol

lol! we must know the same people. But the guys I knew didn't shake their heads and send great wads of drool from the back seat to the windscreen.... although they did climb over people to see out the other window when something caught their eye just like the dog.

Fozzy

Dogs are not allowed in the Witjira NP or Queensland Simpson NP.

I had no choice at the time other than doing a 1500km detour around the deserts as roads were washed out where I was going. We didn't stop at Dalhousie (been there before on a number of occasions) and opted for a hot shower at Purnie instead. We didn't see a ranger and got through scot free but if caught a fine may be imposed. But they can only fine you once so one has to take the chance sometimes.

Cheers

hey moggs, hows it goin? wouldnt let the dog put its face outside the window when traveling over 60km/hr. from the trainers at dog school, and the vet, "a dogs most powerful and used sense is smell, if they catch a bug in the nose at 60+ km/hr, it can seriously damage this sense"

in short......dont do it.

say G'Day to the family from Nicole, Tamzin and I.

P.S. gota catch up soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Hi Shannon, hope all is well with the family. I don't let him hang is head out the window - can't, never let him in the back seat. Never considered the issue re: the nose, but it makes sense.

Definitely have to catch up soon. 3 weeks until the camper is delivered - will be seeking some advice, so be prepared to be grilled ;-)
