G'day Pet, Go to www.12voltshop.com.au, they'll have what you want. They operate out of
Perth,
well I'm pretty sure they do

Hi Pet
Our van has got one of that model. Unfortunately we are in NSW and though it has blown up twice its not for sale because it fixed itself each time.
Funny actually. First time was when it was 6 months old - got stinking hot and a glow from the key pad. We turned it off pulled out the plug and took it to a Samsung repairer in
Hobart. He rang us back a couple of days later and said to pick it up. On arrival, he said "I cannot find anything wrong with it." He took the case off and showed us - it was all squeaky clean, no
sign of heating and worked like a charm.
Almost 2 years later, just before this Christmas on our way to
Adelaide same thing happened. Hot as billyo, did not work this time. We turned it off and decided to try to get a new one in
Adelaide. A couple of days later I decided to do what the guy in
Hobart did - took off the case. No problem visible and by then the thing worked perfectly. And it has since.
We checked that vents were pretty big and not blocked - once the weather was cold and the other time hot. Beats me - but it is working as of now.
So - have you tried yours again? Or maybe your problem is different? I'd like to hear.
However - I don't think the advice to go to 12 volt
shop will help much - its a 240 volt model. Have you checked Samsung's web site for a newer model of the same dimensions? You could email them and tell them your problem and ask their advice.
But - what ever you do plug it in again and check it in case it has the same mystery gremlin that ours has!!

Microwave ovens utilise a magnetron which is a bit like a big valve for those who can remember the old radio days. See the following site for info:
www.gallawa.com/microtech/magnetron.html
It is possible in a poorly designed microwave oven for the magnetron to go into the wrong oscillation mode and all it does is generate heat not microwaves. It will self destruct if left going. Usually if this happens turning off and then on again will fix it. Happens more often if the AC voltage is low. Have actually tested this in a former life to find a microwave oven that would work reliably in a place with poor power supply.

Hey Alastair - thanks for that. Not sure if it answers Pet's question, but it sure is the solution I have been looking for. Guess I should have done an internet search.
Certainly my wife has not let it go on too long generating heat - the only thing we did not do the first time is try re-start it. The second time it would not re-start, which says to me that there is a thermal cutout in there and we just needed to wait till it cooled off enough(which was going to be a while in 35 degrees + temps.
I will do a voltage check next time it happens too - just out of curiosity.
Much appreciated
