Not really 4wd but I intend to make a day of it in the 4wd. Just moved the family to Mildura in the and I was wondering if people can give me an idea as to what the procedure is in Vic as far as collecting your own firewood. I didn't find the DSE web site particularly helpful as far as where firewood can be collected. I understand cutting down trees is not kosher but can you collect fallen trees from state forests and roadside verges? Where else can you go? Have chainsaw trailer and 4wd.

Many Councils require that you have a permit authorising collection of fallen timber from roadside verges. Check with them.

nat parks will not let you collect wood as it is a home for some little critter, best bring your own or collect before entering park......or collect in park without anyone seeing you and move little critter to other log...lol

G'Day Warthog,

Do a search for

Bindara Station

I'm sure Bill will have some great redgum for sale if you want to drive up the road a bit to pick it up,

Regards

From memory: you can cut and collect fallen timber from State Forests for home (non commercial) use but you require a government (probably DSE) permit which can often be purchased from local post offices etc and is about $15 per year. I read this info about 5 years ago. I have no idea if people actually bother to buy this permit or whether the scheme is enforced?
