I’ve been researching a forthcoming trip to Tasmania through ‘
Places’ on this site and find it surprising and disappointing that only one caravan park has any rating/comments. It would also be helpful if there was an opportunity to comment on other
places including National Parks/
Reserves, Towns (e.g. it can be useful to know if there is a
supermarket, fuel, etc.) Designated Free Sites etc.
EO members/users comments could be more valuable than just what advertisers have to say and it saves collecting a heap of junk paper. If everyone takes a few minutes to add even some of their info after a trip the site would be much more useful to all of us. After all, it’s not only the
forum that can provide relevant info.
I’ve only been a member for a few months so maybe I’ve got the wrong idea.

John 'n' Min,
If you wish MM me and I will email you trip notes from Motherhen, They returned not long ago and had a quite extensive trip notes. There was 4 emails worth of info and if I'm correct David recieved a copy to create a data base for the site. I am sure that Motherhen would not mind me forwarding their very informative trip notes.
Cheers Kev

Hi Kev; Min was included in the mail out.
John n Min, for caravan park info around Australia, you can't beat Badger's. This is a voluntary effort by Badger, with information constantly contributed by caravaners.
Well worth checking out before every trip, and contributing to when you get
home.

My opinion is that you are drawing a long bow with your suggestion. It will be immensely difficult to get a proper evaluation of businesses providing accommodation, or other service providers, by travellers as it would be their experience and their perspective only. You may then be drawn into the wrong conclusion.
I write up my trips and post them in my own website as a travelogue but I tend to stay away from evaluating businesses. If you had to have space available on this site as to everyones opinion of their experiences with
places visited then you would need an incredible amount of bandwidt.
There are sites(as mentioned above) and books which cover some of the topics. Other than that you have to do the hard slog of gathering as much information by yourself and not relying on Pushbutton Technology to satisfy your immediate needs.
Cheers

Hi Willem,
Thanks for your considered response.
Motherhen has sent his travel notes and photos to me, for which I am very grateful. I always buy the appropriate Lonely Planet guide for my travels, and have done so for Tasmania. I also have Camps Australiawide 3. A part of my enjoyment of travel is the anticipation and the research before setting out.
EO is an interactive site and I have no doubt it can cope with brief comments from it’s members, on certain categories in the ‘Place’ list. I think the
views of people who have experienced a place are just as relevant as something that comes out of a book or a Parks brochure or anything else.
Searching the
forum is fine but there is often much irrelevant stuff to get through to find a little bit of information.
People who post their travel experiences on a website do a great service and I will investigate my options in doing that. Need to get help from an IT family member to do that!
Happy, safe travelling to all,
