Sign-Man, not your problem: just wonder if another reader can tell me when the name changed from "Sky crane" to "Air crane"?

Gidday Jeff,

From memory, Sikorsky gave the S-64 aircraft the nick "Skycrane", whereas the company that operates them in Oz is called "Erickson Air-crane".

And why do people call them all "Elvis"? There are probably a dozen Erickson Skycranes in use around the world and only one (N179AC) is Elvis. The one on the Plumpton site above is labelled as Elvis but is clearly Georgia Peach (N154AC).

Hi Stephen,
You'd have to ask the owner of that website. I suspect it's a generic name the owner has given to the type (as 'Elvis' was the first of it's type to be used here on fires).

pics are still sitting in my webspace as per the post number above. Those pics did the rounds. I even received via email with them coming through email addresses I didn't recognise.

Yea- they were excellent pics.
I must admit to you, I have sent them around to interested partys.
Maybe you should claim royalties???
