I have a Navara dual cab with a canopy and do a fair bit of camping with the family and subsequently carry quite a bit of soft luggage. Things like stretcher matress rolls and sleeping bags etc.

I am looking at storing these beneath the canopy up and out of the way of other heavy items. I am thinking some sort of flexible netting.

Has any tried this, seen it fitted elsewhere or seen such a thing for sale ?
If you have tried it, was it a success and practical. I was thinking if I had to make one myself I could make it out of rope or some other stretchy line.

Any response most welcome.

Cheers.

Hi GU,
Opposite Lock sell a flexible cargo barrier, looks like seat belt webbing in a lattice configuration.

I've only seen it on their website, it may suit your needs.

Cost - Don't know.

Just an idea.

Try one of those stretchy trailer nets, pretty cheap, and im sure it would not be difficult to make up some hooks in the canopy to attach it to.

good luck

Thanks for that suggestion Mike, that's one of the type of arrangements I've had floating around in the head.
It will probably a bit of a trial and error thing but I'll give it a go.
Thanks again Mike.

Wayne.

I tried a similar thing under the raised roof of a 60 series Sahara. No mater what I used (bungy cord and then rope), the contents bulged down and became a PITA.

So I made a solid shelf out of aluminium mesh - hinged it on the cargo barrier at the back, and supported the front of it on some old Subaru gas struts. You could pull it down easily, slip in the soft stuff, then it would push itself back up. All a bit of trial and error, but it worked well.

Thanks Phil, that sounds like the go, but I'm a bit of a lazy bugger and not too confident in tackling that sort of job. I will probably end up doing something like you suggested but will try to stretchy/rope/bungy cord thing first. I actually don't have a great deal to put up there but what I do have just always seems to be hovering over the very thing I'm looking for in the ute. Murphys law or just silly me?

Thanks again Phil and hope you had a great Aust Day weekend.

Goodmorning,

Forget the 'stretchy stuff', go for prawn netting or similar, cut to size and torneau cover lashing hooks every 6 inches or so, stretch the net into place and hook. To stop the knots in the netting coming undone cut the netting as close to knot as possible on the waste side and apply a hot soldering iron to the net string to melt back to the knot, thus securing.
